1 month update from corn planting. Corn and squash doing amazing interplanted with buckwheat. Been applying KNF maintenance with FAA (Fish amino Acids) and just started transitioning to WCAP (Water soluable Calcium Phosphorus) Can they beat the first frost??

5 day corn germination! And this is not about germinating in a paper towel. I start kernels soaking in the morning and plant that evening/afternoon. Soaking with Korean Natural Farming Seed soak solution (SES) and a dash of EM-1. Plant 2" deep with storm rains and watch them come up! Let's see if they can make corn before the first freeze.

Garden update after three days of soaking rain. Hoping the best for all those affected in the floods. Extreme weather is going to happen. It is on us to make every effort to steward the land to take the edge off of these events. Working in the highlands by slowing and soaking the flow and increasing soil infiltration and retention does just that. This is a small portion of my backyard. Proper land management needs to be done and maintained across hundreds of square miles to truly make regional, life saving impacts. Start with what you can and trust the growth to God. Individually, we are each a drop. Together, we are an ocean.

Maybe one day I'll learn how to pronounce the name of the fritillary butterflies. In the mean time, they are quite beautiful and and also very destructive. The sunchokes are recovering thankfully.

Garden update: Not a drop of municipal water for 2026 to date! With the barely above average rainfall of this year and 275 gallons of rainwater storage, the garden is thriving! Thank you Lord for this rain! It's up to us to use those blessings wisely!
