The Harrietta Area Civic Club has been providing a Hunters' Dinner on November 15 for over 30 years! This year all profits will go to the Harrietta Food Pantry managed by the Harrietta United Methodist Church. If you can't make it to dinner (but we hope you can!), and would like to donate to the Food Pantry, send a check to HUMC, P.O. Box 13, Harrietta, MI 49638. All help is appreciated!

Picking is very poor. We are open just because we said we would be. Call on Wednesday, 8/27, to see if we will be open next Thursday, Friday, Saturday, as the last of the berries may ripen by then.

Larry was very busy today and lots of ripe berries went out the gate. I managed to capture some pix this evening - neighbor Tracy and her family, along with Aunt Patti, another neighbor managed to find a pail and a bit. Dawn (from Brethren) was on a search and find mission, while her husband John kept Larry company. Patty and Todd from Mesick were a bit discouraged too, had hoped to capture more for the winter.
We will be open Friday & Saturday, 8/22 & 8/23, but picking will be very slim. If you want to come out for a nice walk and pick what's available. We hope more berries will ripen next week; our decision to be open for Labor Day weekend will be made next Wednesday 8/28.

Ha!

Folks have asked me where my berry spot is. I'm feeling generous so here's a picture of my exact location. 😘

A nice flow of berries went out the patch on Saturday. The Cauley & Coraci families were here from far and wide in Metro Detroit (meeting up at the family cabin in Baldwin/Irons). More family members were the Romanowski's and Stoll's. Zach, Katie, Kelly & T.J. were visitors from Cincinnati (by way of the Slagle Trout Club). My Notes App was going bonkers - Katie may be Kerry and Kelly may be ?? - I'll share the secret berry lode as an apology]. Harrietta townies Jackie & Tom picked for themselves & friends. I was looking for the Vanhaitsma family from Falmouth since we opened. Busy family & good luck to Katelyn as she finishes her last two semesters of her Masters in Math. Rebecca is Larry's right-hand assistant (love her new red hair!) keeping busy with pail duty. Susan came to pick a few berries before picking up Rebecca. Finally caught up with a picture of our neighbor, Jan, who's our most frequent visitor, along husband, Dave. Out walking a favorite path with her son and daughter-in-law visiting from Kalamazoo.

Failing in my duties. Managed to capture some busy bodies on Thursday & Friday... Kathy & Wayne/Wellston; Carol & Paul/Yuma; Caroline & George/Cadillac; Dan/Falmouth; Gloria & Devany/Lake City & Cadillac; George & Theresa/Cherry Grove; Bob/Cadillac (multi-tasking!); Leah & Victor/Lake Orion and Joe & Natalie/Kalamazoo... Look at all those berries! Capturing some before they get to the berries...

Saturday afternoon caught Pam & Roger on their way from Bear Lake and home to Lake City. It's been a very hot, humid week to pick. Last evening's storm brought some much-needed rain and a power outage (fortunately, less than an hour). Hoping for something cooler this coming week...

hey, you might have remembered I spoke about those pesky cedar wax wings. Well, the circle of life took care of them. Larry found a dead one, probably as a result of a hawk attack. That large flock has left and gone onto the next "diner". We no longer have to worry about how to save the berries for you all. The hawks and crows and few others are still here, but not in the abundance we had.
We hope to be open until Labor Day weekend. Thursday, Fridays & Saturdays, Harrietta, MI (for you out of state viewers!)

Caught up with the Caberfae Crew yesterday evening in the middle of picking. Berries are getting bluer with all this heat, but ripe berries are scattered. One bush with pink, green, aqua and blue berries - go figure! It may take a bit of work, but hopefully you'll be satisfied when you're done. Sample as are you're picking, "if you like what you're picking, you'll like it when you get home."
