It seems I'm not the only one that's sad about taking down the Halloween decorations. But it's time to get more things ready for winter. Sorry Jack!

The daylight might be getting shorter, but the days are still long for us. There's a whole lot of stuff to get done before winter. Little by little, it'll get done. It just might not be done in the daylight. ๐Ÿ˜

I called in some backup to help me get the tarp pulled all the way on and tied down before the wind blew it off. He also rescued me off the top of the stack. ๐Ÿ˜ Thank you, sweetheart! I greatly appreciate you coming to the rescue! ๐Ÿ’œ

Anyone who knows me well knows I'm absolutely terrified of heights! Yet somehow, I'm usually the one to pull the tarp onto the stack. ๐Ÿค” (Sometimes I get really lucky, and one of the boys are available to do it for me.)I'm okay standing on the back of a pickup. But put me up in the air 4 bales high, and I'm on my hands and knees dragging a tarp along, hoping I don't find the last step! (I hear it can be a real doozy!) I'm also unfortunately a lot like a cat climbing a tree. I'm good at getting onto the stack and pulling the tarp onto the stack... I just don't always plan on a way to get OFF of the stack. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

Haying season #2 has started at the ranch! Yeah, it's not really a "traditional" haying season. But we'll be spending the next several weeks hauling hay and getting it stacked and tarped before winter. So, in a way, it's a haying season. It's always nice to have a great friend who's handy with a tractor to help get the job done a little quicker! Thank you Shawn!

Did you know it's National Leathercraft Day? Here are some pictures of my last completed project. I think it turned out pretty snazzy with the burgundy roses and teal buckstitch!

2025 haying season at the Earl Homestead is done! I'm so grateful for our neighbor who fits our hay field into his schedule every year! He does a great job and it sure takes a load off of my workload! I've enjoyed not fighting with Dear John the last couple years, and it's sure easier on my back not doing the small bales. The next "haying" season is hauling season in a month or so. That's when I'll start hauling the alfalfa and grass big bales.

It's not the quickest way to haul hay, but it gets the job done! Sure I could have used the pickup and trailer and another tractor to unload it, but when there's only one person available to run all of the equipment it's just easier to do it this way. Maybe next year I'll take out the t-post and put the gate in so I don't have to worry about hitting the door on it... And maybe I'll get out and harrow in the spring before the grass gets too tall and knock down all of the gopher mounds so it isn't so rough... Maybe

Days like today, it's really tempting to take a dip in the stock tank. But then I wonder, if a cow came up to drink water, would it be as annoyed about me soaking in their tank as we are when a fly is in our water? ๐Ÿค”

And now comes the hurry up and wait phase... The roses are dyed a beautiful burgundy color and the resist has been painted onto the areas that I want to stay lighter colored. The resist is like a lacquer that coats the leather so the next step (antique paste) won't darken the leaves, vines, and edges. This has to dry at least 12 hours before I can antique. So now we wait...
