Prickly Pear Cactus Blooms! Our Cactus has really flowered this year. Yes, it may have some serious spikes/spines/thorns, but those blooms sure are pretty!

Maybe just maybe we'll get some fruit of this cactus this year!

Forgot to post this yesterday but..

The pickled veggies (or more professionally know as "encurtido") really hit the spot with last evenings dinner!
Homemade sopes (sorta like tortillas except they're fried πŸ˜‰), beans and chorizo, and topped with cheese, encurtido (pickled veggies), freshly made salsa, and fresh cilantro straight from the garden! And of course fresh sweet tea on the side with a sq**rt of lemon. Oh and of course you cant forget that the Mexican rice (arroz rojo)!

Just looking at the picture makes me hungry again πŸ˜‚.

Nothing like pickling your very own garden produce!
We've said it before but.. Farm fresh is always the best!

(Well to be completely honest - our red onions arent ready to be picked.. But everything else was πŸ˜‰ )
This will be a delicious side to this evenings dinner!

Took a brief break from FB as we had some thing to catch up on..
However we were blessed with the very last kid this kidding season a couple days ago! Yall meet, Old Paths Maverick Half Pint.

Half Pint is part of our "little house on the prairie" lines. Not only was this kiddo a beautiful doeling, but she was also the smallest Alpine born this year at 5.6 lbs (hence her name πŸ˜‰ ). Another pretty exciting thing about her is that she has both of our current herd sires in her pedigree - Maple Wind Reality Big Spender B* being her grandsire, and Maple Wind Maverick Montage being her sire. And her dam is: Old Paths Reality Eliza Jane

She's super sweet, growing surprisingly fast despite her name, and is secretly being spoiled as she is 2-3 months younger than all our other kids lol.

(P.s. this one is being retained yall πŸ˜‚)

Since we are on the subject of thorns..

These thistle plants are just about ready to bloom. They are truly a unique flower- that vibrant shade of maroon is not easily forgettable- and neither or those incredible spikes!

We've heard some folks absolutely loved pickled thistle stems, some say eat 'em raw/in your salads. And some even say Thistle Lemonade! Might just be worth giving it a try..

Anyone have thistle plant recipes?? We'd love new recipes πŸ˜….

Our wild blackberries are beginning to produce fruit! Obviously it'll be some time before we can start picking (around July-August) but they are worth the wait!

There's nothing like fresh blackberries right off the plant-wild grown, organically. No sprays, no work.
The only con is the serious thorns those plants have lol.

But besides that, we've used these berries in our soap (a bestseller last year), "Poor Man's Rose" (its pictured). This year our goal is to also make some wild blackberry jam πŸ˜‹.

What do yall do with your wild blackberries?

Our "Lavender Poppy Seed" bars have been cut! Here they will stay curing for roughly 6-8 weeks.
The lavender smell is not overpowering at all - just enough to let you know its there ;). Even though this is our very first batch of these bars, its easy to say that we'll definitely be stocking up on more soon!

Excited to see how these bars turn out once fully cured πŸ‘€
