Just thinking that I miss Liskey Sweet Corn as much as anyone else. I mostly miss everyone we would see and talk when y'all came out. It was a better meeting spot than Walmart.

TO ALL LISKEY SWEET CORN CUSTOMERS......

A VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE..........

On our 30th Anniversary, 2014, the Liskey family has decided to retire so the Liskey Sweet Corn stand on South Vally Pike, Harrisonburg has closed. Little did we know back in 1984 when our daughter, Natalie, sold our garden surplus in a wheel barrow at the roadside that we would have the demand for our sweet corn. We have strived over the years to provide top quality sweet corn and our customers have responded beyond our expectations.

We thank all of you who have supported us over the years. We will miss seeing you as all of our customers have become close friends over the years. This makes our decision most agonizing. However, the work involved is what we need to eliminate at this stage of our lives.

Thanks and Blessings to All,
John and Patsy
Liskey and John Jr.

Who can believe that it was about 4 weeks ago that many of us were still enjoying fresh corn on the cob straight from our farm to your table? We thought you might enjoy these "corny kernels" while thinking about your last visit to pick your perfect ears to take home.

•Corn is America's largest crop and accounts for more than 90 % of the total value and production of feed grains.
•Family farmers grow 90% of America's corn.
•The USA produces 40% of the world's corn
•In the USA, 87% of all the corn is grown utilizing only naturally occurring rainfall.
•Reduced tillage has resulted in a 44% reduction in soil erosion in the last two decades.
•Ethanol, a renewable biofuel made from corn, is currently blended into more than 80% of the nation's fuel supply.
•Farmers grow corn on every continent except Antarctica.
•One bushel of corn will sweeten more than 400 cans of Coca-Cola.
•There are about 800 kernels in 16 rows on each ear of corn.

Sorry to confuse you. My days are behind already...it is Friday, Sept 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7 in my recent post.

Friday, Sept. 5. We will have yellow corn and the plan is to start the the last patch of bicolor on Saturday, Sept. 6. I will know definitely after the pickers come in Friday morning. Last chance for some Honey Select.

Continue to have our delicious yellow corn. Should last most of next week. It is excellent for the freezer. Come get it as this will be the last yellow variety for the season. We will be open Labor Day. Our last patch of bi-color will possibly be ready next Friday/Saturday. An update will follow closer to the time. This is also a good variety for freezing.

John just went to the field this evening and found yellow corn in the next patch! So we will still have the delicious yellow corn into next week.

08/20/2013

This week looks like it will be warmer so the corn will be maturing at a normal rate. We will have yellow corn Wednesday and Friday. It would be advised to come in the am. Hopefully the bi-color will be ready by Saturday 8/24. We expect to have corn for about 3 more weeks. Please feel free to call 540-434-2196 for updates or leave a message.
