It's been a while since I've made a video talking with you all in the pasture! We have been dry as a bone going on our 4th year of rough drought conditions, and the flood gates have opened! Not sure it'll break the drought but prayers have been answered! Despite tough conditions, we press on improving our soils and genetic potential. As they say β€œTough times make you tougher!”. We are excited to host the SPGCA Field Day and look forward to seeing you there! Sign Up @ Southpoll.com

Get those consignments ready! Looking forward to hosting this sale! Don't miss the opportunity!

The deadline to consign for the 18th Annual Field Day Auction is approaching.

This is your opportunity to showcase the very best of your herd this September at Field Day in Harrodsburg, Kentucky alongside some of the top South Poll genetics in the country.

The SPGCA is seeking elite consignments that represent the strength of the breed: fertility, disposition, structural correctness, forage efficiency, maternal quality, and performance.

Consignment Submission Deadline: June 15, 2026
Final Photos & Catalog Information Due: July 15, 2026

Consignments are limited to up to 4 head per farm and must be Fullblood or Purebred (including breed up) status to be considered. If you believe in the future of functional, forage-based cattle genetics, now is the time to put your program on display.

Most people have been taught that soil carbon comes mainly from manure, litter, and decomposing crop residues.
But much of that becomes short-lived soil carbon that may only last months or a few years.
The real engine of long-term soil fertility is long-lived soil carbon, also called MAOM (Mineral-Associated Organic Matter).
And one of the most powerful ways to build it is by stockpiling grass. This completely changes how we think about grazing management.
When grasses are allowed to fully mature and complete their biological cycle, they feed a very different soil process than constantly interrupted regrowth.
That changes water holding capacity, nutrient cycling, resilience, and long-term productivity.

I put together a free PDF explaining the process in more detail:
