🐔 The nuggets are on their way to be processed this morning. 🐔

It’s always a little bittersweet.

We raise them from little chicks, feed them, water them, watch them grow, and make sure they are cared for every single day. And then comes the day when they leave the farm to fulfill the purpose we raised them for — to help feed our family and our community.

That’s the circle of life on a farm. 🌾

We believe in knowing where our food comes from and taking responsibility for the animals in our care. While they are here, they are treated well, given fresh air, sunshine, room to move, and plenty of good food and water.

And when processing day comes, we’re reminded not to take that food for granted.

God created animals with a purpose, and we are thankful for the nourishment they provide. We’re grateful for every one of these birds and for the opportunity to raise food right here on our farm. ❤️

From our farm → to the processor → back home → and eventually onto the dinner table.

Thank you, little nuggets. 🐥❤️🌾

🎉 WE GOT A 100! 🎉

I completely forgot to share some good news from yesterday!

We had our annual Health Department inspection here at the farm, and I’m proud to say we received a PERFECT SCORE OF 100! 💯🙌

During our annual review, they check things such as our product labels, refrigerators and freezers, temperatures, and other requirements to make sure we are meeting the proper standards for the products we produce and sell.

Just to clarify, this inspection was for the farm only. Our new downtown storefront will have its own separate Health Department inspection for the retail side of the business as we continue getting everything ready for opening.

🍂 We’ve Been Busy 🏡🌾

There is A LOT happening behind the scenes right now!

We’ve been busy getting things planted and ready for our fall harvest, building up our product inventory, and preparing for the opening of our new downtown Harrodsburg store! ❤️

Opening a retail and food retail store comes with plenty of behind-the-scenes work too — applications, approvals, licenses, permits, inspections… you name it! 😅 We’ve been working our way through all of it to make sure everything is done properly and we're ready to open those doors.

✅ Our next big step is our Health Department inspection next Wednesday!

We’re getting closer and closer, and we’ll keep y’all posted as everything comes together. Keep your eyes open for our GRAND OPENING announcement! 🎉

We’ve also been working with a carefully hand-picked group of local and Kentucky farmers, bakers, makers, and small businesses to bring their products into the store.

Some are right here in our community, while others come from small farms and makers throughout Kentucky. Some may already be names and products you know and love — and we're hoping to have a few surprises waiting for you too! 👀❤️

Our goal isn't to fill the store with just anything. We want products that fit what we're building — farm-grown, homemade, handcrafted, Kentucky-made, and products from small businesses and families like ours.

We want Mama’s Homestead Market to be more than just a place to shop. We want it to feel like an old-fashioned country general store where you can stop in, see what’s fresh or new, discover another Kentucky-made product, support small businesses and farming families, and always have a reason to come back and see what we have next.

🥬 Getting Ready for a Fresh Fall Harvest! 🌱🍂

We got some fall planting done today! 4 rows of Salad Bowl lettuce and 3 rows of Cherokee lettuce are officially in the ground and growing for a fresh fall harvest. 🥬

Our goal is simple — grow more of the food our community eats right here locally. When harvest time comes, you’ll be able to pick up fresh, locally grown lettuce from us and know exactly where it came from, instead of having to worry every time you hear about another commercial lettuce recall at the big box stores.

🌱 We grow it. We harvest it. We bring it fresh to you.

And after planting, I couldn't wait any longer to try out the new bags for our Hand-Ground Oat Flour! 🌾

They worked GREAT! The bags are specifically designed for food products, with a food-grade interior that helps protect the flour and keep it fresh. And yes — that bag holds a full 2 pounds of freshly ground oat flour!

Now I just need to get busy grinding more oats, filling bags, and getting those labels on. 😂

🎉 Our Hand-Ground Oat Flour will make its FIRST farmers market appearance THIS WEEKEND!

Little by little, we're growing more, making more, and bringing more farm-fresh and handmade products from our farm to our community. ❤️

🥶 Brrr… it’s chilly this morning!

Wouldn’t a warm cup of Country Roast Alternative Coffee or a cozy cup of Mama's Meadow Herbal Tea hit the spot this morning? ☕🌿

We have both available now, and we’ll be bringing a variety with us to the Mercer County Farmers Market this Saturday!
