Homemade yogurt is such a simple place to start, when starting to make homemade dairy items!
I have a Ninja Foodi, and it makes this process easy! Basically you follow the prompts. But I will write out the instructions here too!
1.Add 1 gallon of milk to Foodi or instant pot.
2.Turn on to the yogurt setting and press start.
*the Foodi will boil the milk, and then cool it for you
3.It will beep and say add starter. I add 1/4c of a previous batch of yogurt(this must be PLAIN!), and mix in.
4. Put the lid back on and press the start button again
*The Foodi will automatically set it for 8 hrs. You can adjust the time if you prefer to let it ferment longer.
5. Pour the yogurt into a cheesecloth lined strainer over a pot! This will separate the yogurt and the whey. The yogurt stays in the cheesecloth and the whey will go in the pot.
6. I dump my yogurt in a pot and whisk it. (Save some yogurt and whey at this point, for your next batch. I keep mine in a small mason jar in the freezer)This is when I would add vanilla, sugar, honey, maple syrup, or anything you want.
7. Pour into a mason jar and store in your refrigerator. We have found this usually keeps for about 10 days.
Enjoy!
