Something sweet is new at Hessey Farmstead this week.

We have honey!

You'll now find our honey in the online store, with several jars and sizes to choose from—including traditional Muth jars, glass and plastic bears, hex jars, and little 2-ounce jars.

And there's plenty from the garden to go with it.

This week's Fresh List includes cherry tomatoes, summer squash, lettuce mix, radishes, kohlrabi, kale, basil, dill, onions, garlic, and more.

Online ordering is open through Monday at noon for Thursday delivery or Friday farm pickup.

Tomatoes + basil might be one of the easiest dinners August gives us.

Halve a pint of cherry tomatoes, tear in some fresh basil, then add olive oil and a pinch of salt.

From there, you have options.

Spoon over toasted bread. Toss with warm pasta. Add fresh mozzarella. Servealongside grilled chicken. Or just eat straight from the bowl.

Our Cherry Bomb tomatoes are ripening now, and fresh basil is on this week's Fresh List too.

You'll also find lettuce mix, Asian baby greens, rainbow carrots, kohlrabi, kale, onions & garlic, dill, sage, and more.

We have someone new to introduce.

Meet Elio — Hannah's golden retriever puppy and the newest member of the Hessey Farmstead crew.

He's been here about two weeks now, and while he hasn't proven particularly useful at harvesting vegetables, he has become very good at convincing everyone to stop working and play with him.

Jason snapped this picture of Hannah and Elio at the farm stand last Friday, and we thought it was time we officially introduced him.

We'll be back at the farm stand tonight (Friday) from 5–7 PM and at the South Haven Farmers Market tomorrow (Saturday) from 8 AM–2 PM with this week's fresh harvest.

And one little surprise: we have a limited supply of our wood-fired maple syrup back in stock too.

The tomatoes made it just in time for this week's Fresh List.

Cherry Bomb tomatoes are finally ripening fast enough to offer by the pint—and they're joined by quite a few other new arrivals this week.

Arugula and our baby greens are back. Our garlic has finished curing. And Farmer's Choice is back with this week's Summer Supper box.

Plus we're still harvesting rainbow carrots, kohlrabi, kale, scallions, fresh herbs, and more.

If you'd like some of this week's harvest delivered to your door, online orders are due by noon today.

Arugula doesn't have to become a salad.

One of our favorite ways to use it is to add a handful right at the end of a meal.

Pile it onto a hot pizza after it comes out of the oven. Toss it into warm pasta just before serving. Add it to a sandwich or burger. Or serve it alongside eggs with a few cherry tomatoes.

The heat wilts the leaves just slightly while leaving that fresh, peppery flavor.

And after a few weeks away, arugula is back on our Fresh List.

So are baby kale, mizuna, tatsoi, and Asian greens—and the first Cherry Bomb tomatoes are finally ready!

You'll also find rainbow carrots, kohlrabi, onions, cured garlic, fresh herbs, and our new Farmer's Choice: Summer Supper.

They're getting closer.

The vines are loaded with green fruit, and every warm day brings us a little closer to tomato season.

Until then, we're harvesting the vegetables that are thriving right now: lettuce mix, rainbow carrots, fresh onions, garlic, kale, and kohlrabi.

That's one of the things we love about eating with the seasons. Every week has its own harvest, and every crop arrives in its own time.

Have you ever wondered why farmers market carrots still have their tops?

It's a sign they were harvested fresh.

We leave the greens attached because the carrots have just been pulled from the ground. Once you get them home, though, it's best to remove the tops before storing them in the refrigerator.

The greens continue to draw moisture from the roots, so removing them helps the carrots stay crisp and sweet much longer.

This week's Fresh List includes freshly harvested rainbow carrots, along with garlic, several varieties of fresh onions, kale, kohlrabi, herbs, and more.

One of the easiest ways to add fresh flavor to dinner takes about five minutes.

Mix softened butter with minced fresh garlic, chopped herbs, a pinch of salt, and a little black pepper.

That's it.

Spread it on warm bread, melt it over roasted carrots, stir it into sautéed kale, or add a spoonful to grilled steak or chicken.

Fresh garlic has a milder, brighter flavor than cured garlic, making it perfect for simple recipes like this where the ingredients really shine.

Some crops love summer more than others.

While the heat has slowed down some of our spring favorites, the kale is still going strong.

This week we're harvesting both green curly and lacinato (dinosaur) kale, along with fresh garlic and several varieties of fresh onions—including these beautiful Red Long of Tropea onions.
