Today we weaned the remaining doelings, and moved all but one doe to do targeted grazing on a nearby property.
We retired our sweet Boss Babe after this years kidding so she stayed back with the doelings and will be a wonderful nanny to them.
The rest of the doe herd will be happily munching on Sericea Lespedeza, Autumn Olive, Johnson grass, and lots of other grasses and broadleaf.

This is also the first time Tex and Shadow will be in a new area with the goats and so far they seem to be doing great!

Finally got to put the grapple bucket to some good use. We cleared a path through some woods for our electric netting that we will be rotation grazing our goats through very shortly. This thing was a beast and was much faster than a chainsaw could ever be!

Tex is so patient with Shadow and all her puppy shenanigans. You can tell at the end of this clip, she caught wind of something right before Tex, then they were off to investigate.

The big boys of Timber Ridge Kikos!

KCR Frank the Tank, and SLA Blue Steel.
Blue Steel is 3 yo and Frank is 2 yo. The growth we saw in Blue Steel from year 2 to 3 was substantial and we believe Frank will be even bigger. Frank has sired all babies this year, and we have retained several doelings out of Blue Steel from previous years breeding.

We loaded up 17 goats today for the sale barn. We ended up eliminating an entire line from our breeding program due to poor mothering and udder structure, culled two does that were not meeting our expectations this year with overall health and parasite resistance, along with multiple bucklings and yearling bucks.

These decisions come easier each year, knowing that it’s always for the advancement of our herd, and for the breed.

We are very pleased with our new upgrades by Farris Fencing! He was prompt, fair, and his welding is top notch. We will hire him again in the near future to finish out the last section of fencing and our entire property will be fully fenced with 4x4 woven wire. Big things happening!

Some goat pics from the last week. Summer has been hectic and I have not been able to post much lately.

The brown buckling in the 1st and 2nd picture may just be the highest wean weight among any other kid born on our farm. He’s a stout and strong little guy, with a nice calm temperament. He’s not yet hit the 90 day mark.

Picture 3 is one of my favorite bucklings. I call him Precious. He was born a single and his mama was so very proud of him! He is so friendly, and a very sweet little guy!

My baby girl is growing up and has moved with the goats full time! Shadow is 8 months old, and with Tex as her mentor, she’s ready to be with them full time.

It has been a total game changer with having an established LGD helping with puppy training. A puppy is a puppy and they all are rowdy and rambunctious and so many people expect too much from their pups. She can watch and observe his behavior, how he reacts to smells, sounds, his calm behavior around the goats, and can play and do dog things with him. We can spend all day bonding with her, but having another LGD to help is absolutely essential. Our Guard dogs are such an important part of our farm!
