Are Monday introductions a thing? Well let’s pretend they are! I haven’t done one of these in ages and ages and there have been quite a few new faces around here so welcome! My name is Katie and my husband is Oresti. We met in Greece. Oresti had moved there from Albania once his country had opened up and I moved to Greece in 2005 to work as an aupair. We married in 2006, about a year after we met. We stayed in Greece for a bit and had our first daughter, Luli, there and then moved to the States, to Texas (where my family was).
We have a total of nine daughters (one set of twins) and one son who was born here in Missouri. I’ve mostly given birth at home and love homebirths so much. My oldest is 18 and youngest is 3. The first 5 girls are really close in age, my oldest was 4 when the 5th was born.
We moved from Texas to Missouri almost 5 years ago to completely raw land, no electricity or water at first. We built a “shanty” to be able to stay on the land as we built it up. We named our farm Laberia Farm (pronounced Lah-Buh-REE-Ah) after the region in Albania that Oresti is from. Together as a family we run our flower farm, we raise Idaho Pasture Pigs and we opened a farm stand and bake sourdough and other baked specialties on our wood fired oven (no, we don’t have a conventional oven, just wood fired). We try to live as simply as possible, raise and grow a lot of our food, we enjoy life and enjoy raising our children and hope to pass onto them that same sense of joy. I’m also a photographer, primarily black & white, and document our life along the way. ❤️
