Before boxed pudding cups and instant mixes… people made rich homemade pudding from scratch with simple pantry ingredients.
This old-fashioned butterscotch pudding is silky, comforting, and tastes like something straight from grandma’s kitchen.
Some recipes are absolutely worth bringing back.
🤎 Old-Fashioned Butterscotch Pudding 🤎
Before boxed pudding mixes… people made rich homemade pudding from scratch like this. ✨
• ⅔ cup brown sugar
• 2 Tbsp cornstarch
• ¼ tsp salt
• 2 cups milk
• 2 egg yolks
• 2 Tbsp butter
• 1 tsp maple OR vanilla extract
In a bowl whisk together the milk and egg yolks. Set aside.
In a saucepan whisk together the brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
Slowly whisk the milk and egg mixture into the saucepan before turning on the heat.
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened. Once it begins to bubble, boil for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and stir in butter and maple or vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
Serve warm or chilled.
