At day's end today we made the always sad decision to close the cut-your-own field for the season. We still have a good selection of pre-cut Nova Scotia balsams available in six to seven foot range, and the store remains open as well. Until those are gone, we'll remain open from 9 to 4 daily.

For all you Christmas tree searchers, here's an update on our farm. We expect to keep the field open for at least part of this weekend, at least until our quota of field trees is met. Most of the remaining trees are under 7 ft, but there's still a good selection of 6 footers. We also have some very nice looking pre-cut Nova Scotia trees, many up to 8 feet. All trees are $75 plus optional netting/bagging for $2. The store will be open through the weekend. We have a little bit of jam and honey left, and the wreath elf is furiously trying to keep up with demand (but no guarantees). Hours are 9 to 4. The address is 195 Mansfield Rd., Harwinton.

CHRISTMAS LOVERS: Barry Farms will be opening Friday, Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving, for tree and wreath sales. Cut-your-own and precuts are $75 plus $2 for netting, taxes included. We have many different wreaths at different prices and lots of homemade and professionally-made crafts and gift items in the store. Hours are daily (including weekends and Mondays) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until we've reached our maximum harvest for the year. Hope to see you and your family there!

With their milder flavor, garlic scapes make great additions to salads, soups, pickles, and sautés. They're also excellent on their own: grilled, pickled, or as the base for pesto. They freeze well, too. Scapes are the flower stalk of the garlic plant, which are cut off to allow the garlic head in the ground to get bigger. Barry Farms is cutting them now, and we have them for sale at the farmstand for $5 a bag (about 1 lb.). While supplies last ... The farmstand is open daily 8 am to 6 p.m. and is located along the road at 195 Mansfield Rd. Harwinton.

How can you make your weekend a little more special for $5. Grab a Barry Farms bunch of peonies. Take Wildcat Rd off of Route 118, and turn right down Mansfield Rd. Our farmstand is about a mile away on the left. FYI, we'll move the flowers inside during the heat of the day (there are instructions for texting us at the stand, and we'd be happy to pull one out of the cooler for you while supplies last.)

Hope everyone is enjoying these bouts of momentary sun ... especially our veterans. Our plant sale continues and we still have plenty of inventory, plus we set out Barry Farms' jam, Maplewood's syrup, and our own beeswax candles. Stop by the roadside stand at 195 Mansfield Road in Harwinton between the hours of 8 and 6.

For those who didn't make our Great Tomato Plant Sale last weekend, there's good news ... we still have lots of tomatoes left, plus we now have peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, summer squashes, kale, swiss chard, herbs and marigolds. New pricing for the remainder of the season will be $4 for most plants, or 3 for $10. The farmstand will be open beginning Saturday (or Friday, if it doesn't rain too hard) and everyday during regular business hour of 8 to 5. The farmstand is located at 195 Mansfield Rd. in Harwinton, between the stone walls.😃
