🌻 Sunflower harvest is rolling, and dry, windy conditions can increase the risk of combine fires. A timely reminder from our friends at NDSU Extension: sunflower dust can collect on hot engine and exhaust components, making regular cleaning and maintenance especially important.

✅ Clean off dust and crop residue with the combine shut off and cooled down
✅ Check bearings, wiring and warning gauges daily
✅ Keep charged fire extinguishers ready
✅ Monitor wind, humidity and fire danger, and pause harvest when conditions become unsafe.

Take a few extra minutes to protect yourself, your crew and your equipment.

CHARCOAL ROT CHECK | We're seeing charcoal rot show up in some soybean fields following this summer's dry conditions. Watch for plants dying prematurely and gray discoloration on stems and roots. Fine black specks inside the stem can be another clue.

As harvest moves through, make note of affected areas. That information can help guide variety placement and field management next season.
