Huge thanks to The Mad Hook Mobile Slaughtery for being the bestest friends.

If you’ve seen us out and about recently, you’ve seen our trailer hooked up to The Mad Hook’s big ass pickup truck. Without Cheyenne graciously allowing us to use her truck we’d have had to miss a few events recently.

The homestead has brought us a community, and we’re so very thankful for that. Between Cheyenne, and Steve and Lisa at Rent The Chicken we’d have been parked for the last few weeks. We’re so thankful for them giving us the opportunity to be out serving our local community.

If you have the time, please show both pages some love.

The SUV is fixed and can pull the trailer again! The new to us hitch receiver arrived yesterday and Tom had it installed by bedtime last night.

A few months ago we realized that the old hitch receiver, aka the part where the trailer hitch mounts into, had rusted/cracked and was no longer safe to pull the trailer.

We initially tried reaching out to Lincoln/Ford and were told the part was ~$350. At the time, we were cheap and hoped to find something a little more inexpensive. We half heartedly looked around, but we weren’t in a huge rush.

Then the truck went down. We had a few choice words amongst ourselves and called our local dealership back. We were told by every single local dealership that the OEM part was out of production and to find an aftermarket part.

Called every place we could think of for an aftermarket part. Vehicle says it’s an OEM only 🙄🙄🙄 AND that it should have one. Well duh, it DID have one. We need to replace it 😡🤐

Finally find an aftermarket part that says it’s universal. Pick it up, it doesn’t fit. Return it, swap for the other model that’s supposed to fit. It doesn’t fit either.

At this point, we’re over it. Find a used one. Ordered it the same day we found it. 10 days later it still hadn’t shipped. Tom had to make several phone calls, and we were honestly beginning to worry that we’d been scammed. Finally got the shipping confirmation and we were good to role.

It’s been an ordeal, but we can finally tow the trailer with one of our own vehicles. We’re still waiting for the truck to be finished, but we’re now in a much better place.

Whew! What a weekend! We had events Friday-Monday this past weekend. We have some chores to catch up on over the next few days, then we’re back to it on Friday! We’ll be at the Pulaski Farmers Market.

Saturday is still up in the air as we await the completion of the truck and the hitch receiver for my SUV. We’ll update with our location as soon as we figure out where we’re going to be. If the truck is fixed you might even see us try our first divide and conquer mission…

Sunday is a farm day for us, and a day for us to hopefully have some much needed rest and family time as we putter around the farm.

Monday we’re back to the Phoenix Farmers Market.

Black and white mottled Bantam Cochin’s and Ayam Cemani chicks.

There are 17 mottled Cochin’s available right now.

The Ayam Cemani will be grown out and will only have chicks available if they’re pet quality. I plan to assess them tomorrow and will post numbers for availability afterwards.

Oops, I did it again…

I brought home a crate
That had a new critter in it

Oops, you made me promise to wait
But the deal was to great…

In all fairness, it wasn’t me bringing home these beautiful muscovy drakes, but I thought it was funny since Tom and I both agreed not to bring in any new animals this year until we were caught up on the builds we still need here AND built places to put them.

The geese were in fact my idea. These muscovy were his.

Two of these boys are probably headed off to freezer camp, while the third is currently on the hunt for his own haram of female ducks. We might opt for ducklings if we cannot procure any for him this week, but our preference will be for point of lay ducks.
