The trip to spread his ashes is Friday, June 18th. If you want to go on this trip it is time to send in your deposit. The cost is $100 and there's a limit of 27 people on the boat, so not crowded at all.
Please message me about getting the deposits to John Taylor by June 1st.

We got some rain!

My project has hit a snag. My husband reminded me I had to ORDER flooring in order for it to be put down in 2 weeks.... Well all the flooring I had selected has been discontinued.

The websites aren't helpful. So I must go into Home Depot, Lowes, and possibly smaller flooring stores and look to see if I can find anything. The only time I have is from 12 - 3:30 on Thursday afternoon.

He has his biopsy today and I will be going to Boston on Friday. I could also go on Saturday, perhaps. But I REALLY need to get this ordered so it will be here in time.

Is there any brave soul who can drive me around to these places on Thursday?? You don't have to come in if you don't want to.

This is really important as it will halt everything if there's no flooring...

He must not go into a nursing home/rehab....

UPDATE:

He has a DX: broken vertebrae and cancer in the spine

His goal: to beat this and come home

My goal: to get the house finished so he can come home.

If anyone has painting, carpentry, etc skills of some proficiency, I'd welcome the help. There's not much money to hire contractors...

I am looking for help here on the farm again. David has been hospitalized for his severe back pain, and will be unable to do much in the coming weeks.

The most pressing thing right now is to get the firewood that was delivered on Saturday into the woodshed.

There are lots of things needing done but at this time they are contingent on other things happening. I will keep an update on help that we could use as it happens.

Thanks ahead to all who might be able to help...

Some logistics for those who have RSVP'dabout the Processing Day:

The butchershop is a clean room. To keep it that way, no outside shoes are allowed in. If you want to wear shoes in the room, bring a pair with clean soles, something that slips on easily and is washable. While we strive to keep the floor clean of dirt, it does get dirty from eviscerating. There are 3 stations to learn inside the butchershop: eviscerating, cleaning carcass, weighing and recording.

The Potluck will be at noon or when we finish, if we are nearly done at noon. Please bring your own meal utensils and food for several people.

If you arrive by 8AM, there can be a Culling Workshop on culling layers for better laying. The Processing starts at 9AM sharp.

COVID Guidelines:

Stations will be set up if possible to allow for social distancing. Inside the butchershop masks will be required. There will be hand sanitizer there.

For the meal, the food will be set up inside, so masks will be needed inside. We are setting up a canopy and tables and chairs that will allow social distancing while eating. Hand sanitizer will be available at the house also.

If you are at a station and can’t keep a social distance, please put a mask on.

Directions: 44 Plain Road, tell gps to come in from Chestnut St. We are the yellow house in the middle of the field, the barn is set much farther back.

If you are bringing in birds, please have them in secure transport cages. They will be done last. Please bring a cooler for transporting/holding your carcasses.

Again, please DO NOT BRING any birds not in perfect health.

Please plan to stay until the end.

Organic farming means building soil fertility, maintaining ecological balance, promoting biodiversity, reducing dependence on off-farm inputs, recycling nutrients, and allowing livestock to display their natural instinctive behaviors.

We never cease to wonder at the magnificence of the natural world and how it all works together. And that is what our farm is all about. We are learning to work with the natural world, finding our place in its rhythms. To respect the life that feeds us and allow it to live, and die, in as good a way as we can provide. When people come out, the first thing they say is: "It's so calm and peaceful here!" We pasture grass-fed Devon cattle, raise pastured heritage broilers, and pastured pigs for our own consumption. We have layers with an outside pen plus movable access to new areas. We have a large vegetable garden plus an herb garden and many flowerbeds. We will be selling seedlings, vegetables, and fresh eggs at our farm stand from April to November. Fresh organic eggs available at the house year round.
