So I opened up the Wellstown swarm hive this morning to check on it and to refill the feeder frames with sugar water solution. You provide that to a new starter hive, so they can focus on building out comb for the queen to lay, rather than going to forage for pollen/nectar all day. Up until today, I hadn’t looked and found the queen, but this morning I found her healthy and well and evidence that she’s laying eggs and populating the hive, as the worker sisters are building out the comb. This truly made my morning, knowing that they’re settling in and this is their home, by their choice! Rokena Williams is our friend that called us about this swarm and he said the queens name was Keya, after his own Queen/wife! Isn’t this just the coolest watching them go from a clump of bees on a limb, to establishing their own colony? I’m praying they continue to fill out their hive and thrive!
🚨🚨🚨 Also, if there’s any local beekeepers that have any frames in the freezer that have comb built out on them that you’d be willing to sell to me, I’d graciously buy them to put in this hive, to help it grow, without them having to build out every frame, so the queen can really get to laying. 🙏🏻
