Big news from the world of brewing, Stone brewing which started in 1996 and sold to Sapporo in 2022, the was sold to Firestone Walker/Duval is now closing the behemoth of a brewery in Escondido, CA and laying off over 200 employees including 11 brewers. The retirement plan for most breweries is to sell to a bigger corporation instead of the model of a family brewery such as Guinness or Budweiser.

The layoff notice comes four months after its sale to Firestone Walker Brewing.

Four years after it was sold to Japanese beer giant Sapporo, Stone is now set to be purchased by Duvel Moortgat. The deal means Stone's Fulton facility will now only make Sapporo beers and its public-facing taproom on Williamsburg Avenue will also shed the Stone name.
