Hindman Southdowns

Hindman Southdowns We have closed the books on our operation and no longer offer sheep. Let us know if you are looking for other Texas southdown breeders to contact.

Permanently closed.

We began breeding southdowns in 1989 to have lambs for my brother and I to show. We had success in local market shows and breeding shows around the state.

We have developed a ewe base heavy in Robinson 006 "Progressive Rock" genetics. These have produced several county show champions and breeding stock that competes well in regional fairs. We have retained a buck lamb out of the Hired Hand ram

and have purchased interest in a Hired Hand buck out of 4034 to sire future lambs. We believe these will produce lambs that our family and others can show at any level. We thank everyone who has helped us with our successes and look forward to continuing to serve you as best we can. Our goal is to produce competitive and productive lambs for a reasonable price. You are welcome at anytime to visit our flock, share some coffee, and see how our Lord Jesus Christ has blessed us. We produce quality breeding and market southdowns.

Our Story

We began breeding southdowns in 1989 to have lambs for my brother and I to show after breeding suffolks for years. We had success in local market shows and breeding shows around the state. These lambs were based on a sound ewe base we put together. After our showing careers were over we continued to work toward the current Texas style downs. However, our ewe base was decimated by dogs in 2014.

When we decided to move forward we went back to breeders and bloodlines on which we had built our ewe base along with a few others. Sink Southdowns, Branham Southdowns, Flanagan Southdowns, along with Hired Hand allowed us to purchase ewes on which to rebuild. We also purchased rams from Branham and Hired Hand Southdowns.

With this stock we have developed a new ewe base heavy in Robinson 006 "Progressive Rock" genetics. These have produced several county show champions and breeding stock that competes well in regional fairs. We retained a buck lamb out of the Hired Hand ram and purchased interest in a Hired Hand buck out of 4034. We believe these will produce lambs that can successfully show at any level.

Following the loss of our father and operation leader, we have decided to scale back our operation to a small set of ewes that we can continue to provide quality breeding and market animals to those interested. We thank everyone who has helped us with our successes and look forward to continuing to serve you as best we can.
