The Dutra Farm
La Fazenda Dutra (Portuguese for The Dutra Farm) has been a dream my husband and I have had since we met 20 years ago. My husband would write me love letters describing the day we would be sitting on our porch together, in our rocking chairs, looking out across our land that we had worked hard to earn together. Even back then, he knew what made my heart flutter in my chest! I married that man quick fast in a hurry!
Back then, I imagined our farm as a place I would own and breed Morgan horses. I pictured acres upon acres of rolling lush pastures bordered by pine trees situated somewhere in Northwest Idaho. But God had other ideas! La Fazenda Dutra is located in Queen Creek, AZ in the smack middle of the desert! We have two beautiful acres and God blessed us with lots of trees on our little slice of heaven and flood irrigation to satisfy my desire for green pastures.
While La Fazenda Dutra is home to two beautiful Morgan horses, it has become more of small, urban farm! We have more chickens than I ever imagined and share our beautiful egg bounty with friends and neighbors. We also breed and raise registered Nigerian Dwarf Goats and enjoy the delicious milk we get from them. I have even tried my hand at making goat cheese, which turned out amazing!
I never imagined I would be learning how to farm my own land and raise our own food on a small urban farm in the middle of the desert, but God proves to me time and time again that His idea for my life is so much better than I could ever have imagined.
We hope you enjoy following our journey!
