Doris, one of our purebred F6 Mini Nubians, kidded 3 beautiful babes in the middle of the night! 2 doelings and a buckling with a "3" on his head 😂 adorable 😍

Duchess and Milky Way both had triplets a couple weeks ago, so we are up to nine kids now! Mama Bear is next, due in about a week and then we have the chore of deciding who is staying and who is going!

Kidding season is off to a good start with triplets for both Duchess (Blackberry's BH Dulce De Leche 2*P X AutumnWood's Orion) and Milky Way (Tippsy Hills RB Milky Way X AutumnWood's Caspian)- 5 does and 1 buckling!!! 🤩 And this handsome little hunk is WIDE! Plus it looks like he has a beautiful roman nose... not to mention these beautiful long ears everywhere! I can't wait to see how they unfold!

Two more does still due! Doris is due next, then Mama Bear.

Officially on birth watch for Milky Way tonight. She's showing signs babies could be here soon!

Spring is in the air! I dont care if its still cold and snowy lol! 😆 We have some very pregnant does on the Dutra farm and we should have our first babies on the ground in a couple of weeks! Gotta finish getting our birthing stalls ready, but we're getting there! 🤩

Our first kids due will be Gen 6, and out of Blackberry's BH Dylce De Leche 2*P ("Dutchess", 5th gen), sired by AutumnWood's Orion (purebred, 6th Gen). These kids are gonna be LOOKERS! Not to mention put milk in the pail. Dutchess is as productive on the milkstand as she is sweet!

Our next kids due will be Gen 3, out of Tippsy Hills RB Milky Way, sired by AutumnWood's Caspian. I am so excited for these kids! Milky Way and Caspian both have fantastic dispositions, plus Milky Way has great production, teat & or***ce size! Looking forward to seeing what this pairing produces! 🤩

We sure dropped fast in temps this last week. All the animals were handling the cold well, except one of our bucks. He's just so focused on the does this year, he isnt eating enough and didnt have a chcance to grow a proper winter coat yet. So we built a couple "huddle huts" in their mini barn to help hold heat, and even allows for "huddling" even though the bucks need to be separated. I'm so thankful for my hubby helping with these projects! I dont like doing them alone anymore. 😅

Gosh what a beautiful morning! Winter is around the corner and it's getting chilly outside.

We spent the last few days relocating the bucks ( I'm so glad we made their shelter portable!) to a better long term location that's closer to the does and gets more sunshine during the winter months.

They each have their own run now, because they were being relentless with their breeding season aggression towards each other. They still can be buddies and share a shelter (divided) but things are much more peaceful now!

We’ve been hurrying to beat the cold weather and our handsome bucks needed a proper winter shelter. With the help of my father in law (who actually drew blue prints for me 🤩), & my hubby’s muscle and coaching, we built a mini barn for the bucks this last week. Plus my hubby ran electricity to the fence so we can keep their water from freezing! 😍

Still needs a couple finishing touches but we’re happy with how their little shelter turned out! It’s portable & divideable if we so choose when the weather is warmer! For the winter, I plan to enclose the backside to block too much wind flow.

PSA: We’ve decided to cut our milk selling season short this year. Thank you all so much for supporting us! If we decide to sell milk next year, we will make an announcement in the spring (April time frame).
In the meantime, we’re enjoying the end of summer, and getting prepped for breeding season and winter! 🥳

The Dutra Farm

La Fazenda Dutra (Portuguese for The Dutra Farm) has been a dream my husband and I have had since we met 20 years ago. My husband would write me love letters describing the day we would be sitting on our porch together, in our rocking chairs, looking out across our land that we had worked hard to earn together. Even back then, he knew what made my heart flutter in my chest! I married that man quick fast in a hurry! Back then, I imagined our farm as a place I would own and breed Morgan horses. I pictured acres upon acres of rolling lush pastures bordered by pine trees situated somewhere in Northwest Idaho. But God had other ideas! La Fazenda Dutra is located in Queen Creek, AZ in the smack middle of the desert! We have two beautiful acres and God blessed us with lots of trees on our little slice of heaven and flood irrigation to satisfy my desire for green pastures. While La Fazenda Dutra is home to two beautiful Morgan horses, it has become more of small, urban farm! We have more chickens than I ever imagined and share our beautiful egg bounty with friends and neighbors. We also breed and raise registered Nigerian Dwarf Goats and enjoy the delicious milk we get from them. I have even tried my hand at making goat cheese, which turned out amazing! I never imagined I would be learning how to farm my own land and raise our own food on a small urban farm in the middle of the desert, but God proves to me time and time again that His idea for my life is so much better than I could ever have imagined. We hope you enjoy following our journey!
