These are among the most popular beef breeds found in America. British breeds like Angus and Herefords are smaller framed, fertile, and easier to handle. Continental European breeds have larger and leaner builds than British breeds and include Limousin, Simmental, and Charolais.
Overall, Angus and Hereford cattle bring in the most profit here in America. Demand for Gelbviehs has spiked in recent years, making this a more prevalent beef cattle breed in the United States.
Texas Longhorns relate back to the first cattle to set foot on American soil over 500 years ago and have since become the sound product of “survival of the fittest”. These hardy animals are the only breed truly adapted to America without aid from man.
While Holsteins are the most popular dairy breed, beef from finished Holstein steers provides a consistently quality product.
