Rummy Update! My little man is growing fast and is spoiled to the core! He is doing great and loves food, cuddles with mama, playin in the swimming pool, and running around with the kids. He is nothing short of a miracle! He is loved and has a short temper when it comes to feeding time.

The most heartbreaking thing we have seen on our farm… Our sow, Lucille had 13 piglets without our knowledge Friday morning. I knew something was wrong when I called to her to eat. I went out to find her and she whined at me. I seen two little heads, after examining her nest I seen more that had posed away. I’m not going into detail as I was only able to find 7 viable. After looking at them, I determined they were born 2 weeks-month early. No matter the amount we fed them, their lungs just weren’t developed enough to be saved. This morning, we lost our last one. She was a fighter until the end trying her hardest to get up and move. I did everything right on my end… her little body just couldn’t be saved. The job of a pig farmer is hard. It’s long days and even longer nights sometimes, but we always manage. Prayers for our farm would be nice right now. We have endured many losses this year, but have gained a lot of knowledge in 8 months time.

🐷 Rummy’s Story 🩷

There are animals that come and go, and then there are those that leave footprints on your heart forever.

When Rummy was born, he weighed just 12 ounces. He was a genetic runt, and the odds were stacked against him from the very beginning. Many people would have assumed he wouldn’t make it.

But Rummy had other plans.

We bottle-fed him around the clock, kept him warm, prayed over him, and celebrated every tiny milestone. There were days when we worried, and nights when we wondered if he’d pull through. Watching him grow one ounce at a time taught us more about determination than we ever imagined.

Today, Rummy is a happy, healthy little pig who thinks he’s part of the family—because he is. He follows us everywhere, unless he’s busy getting into something he shouldn’t… like sticking his head in my boots. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 He naps on the couch, demands attention, and has a personality bigger than his little body.

People often ask how I can get so attached to a pig.

The answer is simple.

When you pour your heart into saving a life, that life becomes a part of yours.

Rummy isn’t “just a pig.” He’s proof that the smallest fighters can have the biggest hearts. He’s a daily reminder that sometimes all someone needs is a chance, patience, and someone willing to believe in them.

I wouldn’t trade this little boy for anything in the world. He has a huge piece of my heart, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.

Thank you, Rummy, for reminding us every day that miracles don’t always come in big packages. Sometimes they come with a curly tail, a muddy nose, and a heart full of love. 🩷🐷

The Hardest Lessons Grow the Strongest Farmers ❤️🐖🐐

This year has tested us in ways we never imagined.

In just seven short months, we’ve experienced more heartbreak than we ever expected. We lost our little genetic runt, Zoomie. We lost a goat that I fought so hard to save. We had one sow reject her babies, another become depressed after being separated from hers, and we suddenly found ourselves raising nine orphaned bottle babies. We lost three piglets to E. coli from a first-time mama, and tonight we experienced a devastating accident during castration that broke our hearts.

There have been nights I’ve questioned whether I was cut out for this. Nights I’ve wondered if selling everything would hurt less than continuing to risk losing animals I love so deeply.

But farming isn’t just about the victories. It’s about showing up on the hard days, too.

For every loss, there has been a lesson. We’ve learned more about farrowing, bottle feeding, disease prevention, maternal instincts, nutrition, and the responsibility that comes with caring for livestock. Some lessons came from success. Others came from heartbreak.

Among all the difficult moments, there have also been victories worth celebrating. We successfully raised nine orphaned piglets, and one of the things I’m most proud of this year is raising another genetic runt, Rummy by bottle until he reached an incredible 15 pounds. And still continues to grow everyday! Watching him grow reminded me that sometimes the smallest fighters have the biggest hearts.

This year hasn’t been easy. But it has made us better caretakers, better livestock producers, and more grateful for every healthy animal in our care.

To everyone who follows our journey, thank you for celebrating our wins and standing with us through our losses. We believe in being honest about farm life because it isn’t always pretty—but it’s always real.

We’ll keep learning. We’ll keep growing. And tomorrow morning, just like every other day, we’ll get up and take care of the animals who are counting on us.
