Alberto Rafanelli, an Italian immigrant, first founded A. He settled in the Healdsburg area with his family and started growing grapes and making award winning wine. After prohibition, Alberto’s son Americo showed interest in the family business and was soon carrying on the tradition. He moved the winery to the Dry Creek Valley in the early 1950’s. It was here that he began to farm his Zinfandel a

nd raise his family. Although it wasn’t until the early 70’s that he came out with the present day label and started to sell his wine commercially. Since then, Americo’s son David, and his wife Patty own and operate the business. The winery is now in it’s fourth generation of growing grapes and making wine in the heart of Dry Creek Valley. Dave RafanelliAll family owned and operated A. Rafanelli specializes in Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The small rustic winery sits on a knoll overlooking the valley and is surrounded by some of its hillside vineyards. Production is 11,000 cases annually and there are approximately 85 acres planted to various varieties. Tasting and purchases are by appointment only, and all the wine is sold direct. The family prides itself in quality not quantity and believes in traditional winemaking practices. Shelley in VineyardsRashell (Shelly), the eldest daughter, is the winemaker. She graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1996 with a degree in Agricultural Business. Since then she has taken over all production at the winery. With the help of her husband Craig Fehlman, who manages all of their vineyards, they hope to carry on the family tradition, and keep improving the wines. Shelly’s sister, Stacy, is in charge of daily operations at the winery.

A weekend spent celebrating Sonoma wine country.

We were honored to pour at the inaugural Savor Sonoma event at Graton Resort & Casino, joining an incredible group of wineries, chefs, and guests for an unforgettable evening. The energy was nonstop from start to finish, and we had the pleasure of sharing our wines with so many familiar faces and new friends.

Our spot just happened to be next to acclaimed chef Marcus Samuelsson, making an already memorable event even more exciting. Between the conversations, the pours, and the steady stream of guests, there wasn't much time to step away from the table, but that's exactly how we like it.

We also had the opportunity to participate in this year's Project Zin celebration, a longstanding event that highlights one of Sonoma County's most iconic varietals and the community that surrounds it.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to raise a glass with us. We’re grateful to be part of such a vibrant wine community and look forward to doing it again next year.

What does "less is more" actually look like in a vineyard? 🍇

For head winemaker Shelly Rafanelli, it starts with walking the vineyards. Again and again.

No shortcuts. No rushing. Just paying attention to what the vines need and what they don't.

Watch the Reel to hear how our approach to farming has evolved over the years while staying true to the same commitment to quality.

Ever wonder what shapes the wine before it ever reaches your glass?
It starts in the cellar and barrel room, where everything slows down. This is where each vintage is quietly guided, tasted, and watched over, barrel by barrel.

It's the part of winemaking most people never see, but it's where the story of every bottle truly begins.
