Collier Falls is a family-owned w**ery located in Healdsburg, California’s beautiful Dry Creek Valley. We grow and monitor our own grapes, and seek to produce world class w**es in Sonoma County. We make fewer than 2,000 cases each year. Our name comes from a waterfall below our Zinfandel vineyards.

Meet the grounds crew: Sq**rt (black and white) and Brownie (all black).

They got their start down in Block 3, on w**d duty. Then my aunt stayed with us for a stretch, befriended Sq**rt, and that was the end of Sq**rt’s career as a working sheep. She now behaves more like a dog than Bella does: comes when called, tags along on walks, and turns up on the deck at cocktail hour like she pays the mortgage. (Brownie, the quieter one, stayed out of frame for most of these.)

Both are survivors in the literal sense — the local mountain lions have thinned the flock more than once, and Sq**rt and Brownie are the two who made it.

At the moment, though, they’re in the doghouse. Turns out neither can tell Lisa’s flowers from w**ds, and they’ve developed a real talent for knocking over pots. So for now it’s supervised release only. Training is ongoing. Results are not guaranteed.

The vineyard's starting to turn.

First real color coming into the hillside — gold and red for a few weeks before the leaves drop and the vines go bare for winter. It's the prettiest stretch of the year up here, and the first one where there's nothing left to do but stand in it and look.

Eleanor and Libby came out to see it. Fifi came along to be carried.

Harvest, from the shortest members of the crew.

That's a wrap on 2026 — the Zin, the Rosé, and the last of the high-elevation Cab, all in. Eleanor and Libby are happy there won't be any more tractors and headlamps outside their bedroom in the middle of the night — though it does mean their grape consumption is about to fall off a cliff.

Growing up on the estate means harvest isn't something that happens around them. It's something they're part of. Always has been.

Meet Fluffy Flufferton. Fifi, for short.

You met her in passing a couple weeks ago — the shih tzu who's one-fifth Bella's size and fully believes she can herd sheep. Here she is.

Fifi's self-appointed roles around the ranch: Head of Security (barks at everything, stops nothing). Director of Play (certain every creature here, sheep included, wants to play with her). And Princess of the Ranch — not up for debate.

She snuggles like it's a competitive sport, hits the zoomies at golden hour, and personally delivers every burr on the property straight into the house. Bella remains professionally unimpressed.

Cab came down in the dark.

The last blocks of the season — high-elevation Cabernet, farmed on hillside terraces that need every extra day of hang time we can give them. We pick it at night: cooler fruit, cleaner flavors, and honestly the best way to bring it in before the heat wakes up.

Crew was working not long after midnight. By the time the sun was up, the fruit was in bins and headed to the cellar. That's a wrap on Harvest 2026.

Rain, wind, a mild summer, a wet finish — every year is an adventure, and this one earned the title. Now it's Mike's turn.

Harvest is on!

Crew was in the rows shortly after midnight last week, pulling fruit off the last Zinfandel block. This is the part outsiders don't see — the work that happens between when the light comes up and when the rest of Dry Creek is having coffee.

Both Zins for '26 are in now. Rosé smelling extraordinary in the cellar. Still waiting on the high-elevation Cab up top — always the last to come in.

Every year around here is an adventure. This one included.

Meet Bella.

She's a border collie. Border collies were bred to herd sheep. We have sheep. We also have a chicken — down to one, after a rough summer — and Bella has decided chickens are her life's work.

Every morning, same routine: sit near the coop, watch. Reposition. Watch. If the chicken moves, Bella moves. If the chicken doesn't move, Bella waits.

She has never actually herded the chicken anywhere. The chicken is unbothered. This has been going on for over a year.

When she's not on duty, she's under a blanket. Priorities.

Fifi — our shih tzu, roughly one-fifth Bella's size but does think she can herd sheep — will show up soon.

First light over the vines. New chapter starting at Collier Falls.

We're a small hillside estate in Dry Creek Valley — 18 acres of vineyard perched on steep hillsides, some vines going back to 1982, farmed by a family that fell into this a few years ago and hasn't looked back.

This fall we're opening things up. More of what actually happens up here: the vineyard through harvest, the cellar, the animals (there are a lot of animals), the family, the w**e. Some of it will be beautiful. Some of it will be a border collie trying to herd a chicken. We'll share both.
