The last few weeks of Kansas wind, hail, and flooding have left many producers facing tough decisions on what comes next. If you’ve had hailed-out milo or crop damage, now is the time to start thinking about recovery options and we’re here to help. 🌱
At Sharp Bros. Seed Co., here are a few options we’d recommend for getting acres working for you again:
✅ Hybrid Forage Sorghum / Sudan Options
Two strong choices for replanting hailed-out milo are sudan or hybrid forage sorghum, both of which can be planted into mid-July and still produce solid tonnage for baling or grazing.
🌱 Grazex BMR 801 (Top Recommendation)
A medium-early maturity sorghum sudangrass hybrid that offers excellent forage quality thanks to its BMR trait making it a great option for high-quality forage.
🌱 Canex II (Second Choice)
A later maturing hybrid (about 10+ days behind Grazex BMR 801) that works well as a single-cut hay option. Canex II can also have Pollinator added for grain production and LDP eligibility.
✅ Cover Crop / Grazing Option
🌱Wheat Cropper Mix
A versatile mix containing cowpeas, sudangrass, radish, turnips, and forage r**e that provides an excellent grazing option while helping reduce soil erosion. Best suited behind wheat, but can still work after milo depending on prior herbicide applications.
We know weather can change plans fast, but having the right seed and the right strategy can help you recover strong.
