🌑🖤 Reflections of a Witch 🖤🌑
The Witch Who Finally Chose Herself
October 10, 2026 — New Moon in Libra
What if the life you've spent years defending is the very life you need to leave behind?
What if freedom isn't waiting on an apology, a victory, or someone else finally admitting what they did?
What if it begins the moment you decide that surviving the same pain is no longer an act of loyalty?
I've spent nearly half a century with my roots buried in the same Southern soil—
the soil my father loved, the soil that holds my childhood, my memories, my tears, and the ghosts of a life that no longer exists.
My Ditty built more than structures on this land.
He built a home: a place where I once felt safe, a place where his presence lingered in every familiar sound, every tree, and every piece of something his hands had touched.
But somewhere along the way, home stopped feeling like home.
The things he loved have been damaged, destroyed, or disappeared.
Family became strangers.
Love became betrayal.
Grief became a battlefield.
And I became a woman so consumed with defending what was left behind that I nearly forgot there was still a life ahead of me.
I've been fighting so damn hard for the dead that I've barely had room to live for myself.
That realization hurts in places I don't have words for.
I lost my father.
I watched my marriage die.
I've watched relationships crumble, illusions shatter, and people reveal themselves in ways I never imagined possible.
And now I've walked away from a job that was costing me more of myself than any paycheck could ever replace.
For years, I've told myself to hold on.
Stand my ground.
Fight another day.
Be stronger.
Be tougher.
Don't let them win.
But tonight, beneath a moon that has vanished into darkness, something inside this old witch has finally shifted.
What if freedom doesn't come from winning every battle?
What if freedom comes from realizing that not every battle deserves the rest of my life?
I remember another version of myself.
A younger woman wandering the streets of Paris.
Traveling through Amsterdam.
Living in Germany and discovering the world beyond everything she'd ever known.
I remember how it felt to be free.
Not free from responsibility.
Not free from hardship.
Just FREE.
Free to explore.
To wonder.
To become.
And somewhere beneath these years of heartbreak, that woman is still alive.
She's just been waiting for me to come back for her.
Tonight's New Moon feels different.
I'm not asking the universe for revenge.
I'm not begging for justice or demanding that people finally understand the damage they've done.
I'm asking for my life back.
I'm asking for mornings without dread.
Nights without fear.
A home where peace isn't something I have to fight for.
I'm asking for laughter with my sister.
New roads.
Strange places.
Cold northern air.
The freedom to wake up and decide what comes next.
And as I approach my fiftieth journey around the sun, I'm beginning to understand something.
My roots may be in South Carolina, but my soul was never meant to be imprisoned there.
I can love my Ditty without living forever among the ruins of what he left behind.
I can honor my ancestors without inheriting every battle.
I can walk away from a place without walking away from who I am.
And I can grieve a home that no longer exists while giving myself permission to find another.
There is a particular kind of magic in finally choosing yourself.
It doesn't arrive with thunder or lightning.
Sometimes it arrives quietly, in the darkness of a New Moon, when a tired woman looks at the life she's been surviving and whispers...
I don't want to live like this anymore.
And for the first time, she listens.
So tonight, I release the guilt of wanting more.
I release the belief that suffering proves loyalty.
I release the obligation to remain somewhere simply because I've always belonged there.
I don't know exactly where this next road will lead.
But I know one thing with every fiber of my witchy little soul.
I am not finished living.
And I'll be damned if the rest of my story is written by the people who tried to destroy my peace.
My Ditty gave me roots.
Life gave me scars.
But this witch?
This witch still has wings.
And it's about damn time she remembered how to fly.
🌑🖤 So mote it be.
