Chopper had surgery this week and Michael was on snuggle duty the last few days while I baked! Now it’s my turn for the snuggles, so Michael is going solo at the Heathsville Farmers Market today from 9-2! We have the tastiest Einkorn Sourdough Cookies and the Sourdough Einkorn Everything Crackers are back by popular demand!

We are so grateful for Ms. Bev and her amazing fig tree that she has been so kindly letting us pick all week! We will have these delightful dried figs at the Waterman’s Market on Saturday! We will see you at the Slips!

My sweet little Leo boy wasn’t feeling well this morning. Thru the emergency chaos, the one thing that stood out to me was how genuinely sweet sheep friends are. These boys knew when one of their own needed a little extra comfort and they didn’t hesitate for a second.

Leo is doing much better now and is happily grazing with his crew, but we will be giving him extra love and keeping an extra eye on him today.

Some of our favorite recipes are the simplest ones.

Our Einkorn Sourdough Crackers start with Geraldine, our sourdough starter, and freshly milled ancient einkorn. From there, we keep the ingredients simple and let the flavor do the talking.

They’re slow fermented, baked in small batches, and made on non-toxic bakeware with unbleached parchment paper. Every bag is made by hand right here on the farm with intentional ingredients.

🌾 Einkorn Sourdough: Higher in protein, fiber, and minerals than modern wheats, milled here on the farm.

🧀 Freshly Grated Parmesan Cheese: Protein, calcium + flavor

🧈Grassfed Butter: That homemade flavor

We love the days when farm work and play on the water with friends somehow fit into the same schedule.

Morning chores, animals fed, water buckets filled… then a little time on the river before heading home to do it all again.

That’s one of the things we love most about the Northern Neck. Life here gives us room to enjoy farm life and river life. We wouldn’t trade either one…

We owe a few of you an apology!!

Apologies to our satellite farm stands: Dug In Farms Jeff’s Country Market Kellum Farms Seafood & Produce Chesapeake Doughnut Co. and Horn Harbor Restaurant

We cannot keep up with demand! We are struggling to keep up with supplying the farm stand, let alone our partners.

While this is a good problem to have, friends, please try to support our valued partners by purchasing some of our honey or other products instead of eggs.

Why are we behind? The girls have not liked the heat, but they have certainly liked having babies! We raise our own chicks and since we need to grow, we let our ladies become the mommies they desire to be. Currently, we have somewhere around 60 of these beautiful chicks running around. It’s the cutest. And, four more moms are sitting on eggs. One is hatching her eggs right now!

Our moms sit on their eggs for approximately 21 days, then they do not begin laying eggs for another two months or so while they raise up their young chicks. That is close to 3 months out of the egg-laying business for these moms, and we have lots of them.

On the plus side, we have selected the eggs our moms are raising based on egg quality—not breeds or designer elements—focusing only on shell quality, yolk quality, and cleanliness. An additional plus is that the new chick flock is very hen dominate. It takes another 6 months for the new hens to start laying, so in about 4 more months, we will be in a much better situation.

Thank you for allowing us to be such a part of the community and we will continue to grow our flock and egg numbers!
