About 5 or 6 years ago I saw a post in one of the Poteau what's happening groups asking if there were any seed swaps or plant trades or anything like that. I excitedly responded that I was new here and didn't know many people, but I'd love to trade seeds. No one responded (to my recollection) with any local options, so T.J. of White House of Style and I traded seeds in their salon and I think thats what we might get to call our innagural seed swap. From there my local gardening network began to grow quickly and my gardening friends and I hosted my first organized seed swap in Poteau, at the old farmers market building downtown. Since then we've traded seeds in Poteau, Cameron, Bokoshe, Heavener, Summerfield, Wister and Sunset Corner while also expanding to Fall and Spring events.
Today I had the pleasure of having this year's Fall seed swap at The Coffee Cup thanks to my new gardening friend Tammie. We saw a wide variety of seeds and made new connections with other gardners. Lots of ideas and information were shared and we've got plenty of seeds leftover to share with those that couldn't make it (shoot me a message if that's you and we'll meet or they go to schools and libraries and future swaps).
Huge thank you to everyone that joined us and helped make this happen. Gardening is one of my absolute favorite things to do and I'm so grateful to continue to grow with such an amazing community.
