🐐❤️ What a Show—and What an Incredible Group of showmanship by our youth! ❤️🐐

The 4-H & FFA Dairy Goat Show at the State Fair is always special, but watching these girls enter the ring made me especially proud. I’ve watched them work, learn, struggle, improve, and grow—not only as goat exhibitors, but as individuals. 🐐❤️

At A’Lil Rusty Farm, we are committed to supporting local youth through access to animals, agriculture, education, and hands-on experiences.

Through our A’Lil Rusty Dairy Goat 4-H Club, members work with their goat projects throughout the year while developing dedication, patience, confidence, responsibility, and perseverance. We also partner with local high school programs to introduce students to dairy livestock and broaden their agricultural experience.

FFA with our local high schools. Giving these opportunity to work with another type of livestock, dairy, expanding opportunity.

Our CAPS—Center for Advanced Professional Studies—program, through our local high school and Utah Valley University, provides students with real-world, hands-on experience that complements their agricultural studies and future career paths. After welcoming two interns last school year, we are excited to have two new students joining us this year.

It’s about so much more than showing a goat. It’s about helping young people discover what they can accomplish through hard work, commitment, and care.

🐐🍼 Baby Goats at the State Fair Today! 🍼🐐

Today at the State Fair, we’re talking all about one of our favorite things — KID GOATS! ❤️

There’s nothing quite as adorable as a baby goat, but there’s also a lot to learn about what goes into raising a healthy, happy kid.

👶🐐 So, what do baby goats eat?

When they’re born, their most important food is colostrum — that first milk their mother produces. Colostrum provides essential nutrients and antibodies that help give newborn kids a strong start.

After that, kids primarily thrive on milk, whether they nurse their dam or are bottle-fed. As they grow, they begin nibbling on hay, fresh forage, and age-appropriate grain, while always having access to clean, fresh water.

🌱 One of the fun things about raising kids is watching their diets change as they grow. Those tiny babies quickly become curious little goats, exploring everything around them and learning to eat like the big goats!

Today we’re giving fairgoers the opportunity to see, ask questions, learn about feeding, and experience what it’s really like to raise dairy goat kids.

We love sharing our goats and educating our community about these incredible animals — and we especially love seeing the excitement on kids’ faces when they meet a baby goat! 🐐❤️

🐐🥛 We’re at the Fair Today! Come Talk Goats, Milk & Wellness With Us!

We’ve had so much interest today in learning how to milk a goat, and we LOVE the questions! From first-time milkers to people simply curious about the difference between goat milk and cow milk, it’s been a wonderful opportunity to share what we do here at A’Lil Rusty Farm.

One of the questions we hear most is:

“What’s the difference between goat milk and cow milk?”

Here’s a quick comparison:

🥛 GOAT MILK
• Naturally homogenized — the cream stays dispersed rather than forming a thick cream line as quickly.
• Fat globules are generally smaller, giving goat milk its naturally smooth, creamy texture.
• The protein structure and fat composition are somewhat different from cow milk.
• Typically contains slightly more calcium per cup than whole cow milk.
• Naturally provides protein, phosphorus, potassium, and vitamin A.
• Many people find goat milk easier to digest, although true cow-milk protein allergy and individual tolerance varies.

🐄 COW MILK
• Generally has a larger cream layer when not homogenized.
• Has a different protein and fat profile than goat milk.
• Also provides good nutrition, including protein, calcium, phosphorus, potassium and vitamin B12.
• Widely available and available in many different fat percentages.

✨ The biggest takeaway?
Both are nutrient-rich foods, but raw goat milk has a different composition that many people enjoy. Obtaining natural probiotic properties and natural, just as nature intended it. And when you experience fresh milk straight from the farm, you get to appreciate just how much goes into producing it!

We’re enjoying every conversation, every question and every opportunity to educate people about where their food comes from and how it gets from our farm to your family’s table.

If you’re at the fair today, come see us, ask questions and try your hand at milking a goat! 🐐❤️
