Man, this evening really took a left turn at Albuquerque..

What started as doing a little project to improve the path up to the farm, ended up with me getting the backhoe stuck in the mud and making a hell of a mess.

I got it done well enough to call it a night and finish it tomorrow, but I was literally up to my knees in mud trying to get this done and get the tractor out of the creek. 😳

Time for a hot meal, a cold drink, and to try again tomorrow.

Man, it really sucks to come back to the farm after a long week of working and finding three mature oak trees have fallen over and are now gone.

Thankfully, I have the time this week and the equipment to cut up and move these trees.

I cut them up into 12' logs and have been setting up a pile for us to mill into boards and use around the farm, or to save for when we are ready to start building. Maybe use them for some custom cabinetry or something cool. 😊

I'm glad that I'm a professional at turning lemons into lemonade these days!

Keisha, her mother, and grandmother celebrated Mother's Day on the farm this afternoon! It was celebrated with lunch, a garden tour, and a trek through the property. We hope everyone had a love filled day.

Well, Keisha and I had our morning derailed a little bit today, but I am glad we took care of business!

I noticed the spotted lanternfly nymphs were hatching inside the shed, so we took an hour or so and killed every one we saw.

There were dozens of unhatched egg masses that we smushed and sprayed down with bee spray, and there were hundreds of nymphs we crushed as well..

Next up is to spray down the maple tree out front that is infested!

I'm surprised at just how much equipment was just abandoned in the overgrown brush that's out back.

It is both amazing and disheartening to see how people used to be so okay with just dumping trash in some ravine and calling it good.

I injured my ankle and knee Monday morning at my 9-5 job, and I decided that after two days of real rest and putting it up, I could go on 'light duty' and also convinced myself that running the tractor with the little backhoe on it consisted of light duty. 🤣

So, on Wednesday I started clearing out this stream on the property, and I quickly found that it was the farm's dump back in the 80's and 90's!

Today I decided to get back into it, and finally got the trench dug, but you would not believe all the trash and crap I found in there!

9 tires, 200+ glass bottles, a Barbie ski resort chalet, tons of parts to farm equipment, plates, cups, clothes, a funky green toilet, and a whole washing machine are just the things that come to mind.

Thankfully, I have a dump trailer so I can get the trash sorted out of the dirt and placed somewhere more appropriate. Same for the tires, I'll stack and tarp them and make a run in to see the guys at Bob's Tire and pay for them to dispose of them properly.

Thats one way to mark a septic tank! 🤣 We had ours marked this winter and spring showed us the previous owners had a way of their own. We love finding random and cool hidden things on the farm.

Well, damn. We lost a few dead trees in last night's wind storm, which wasn't a problem. Unfortunately though, we lost a few live trees, and we were trying to keep as many trees as we could.

More work for my next day off of work, I guess.

That's pretty cool! We just got this trail cam shot of this owl getting dinner to-go! 🤣
