Winterizing the mainline tonight and took a moment to look back at an eventful growing season. The field is clear, green, and we even saw a singular flowering bud. May will be here before you know it!

Never a dull moment. Having a broken down wheel line for two weeks after baling, especially in the heat of July, is never where you want to be. Alas, it’s where we found ourselves after a broken dowel pin kept our wheel line from being able to move. We knew nothing about transmissions going into the problem and were preparing to have to purchase a new one—a $1,200 to $2,500 expense depending on how you do it. Fortunately, we have awesome neighbors and family who are all knowledgeable in their own ways. By compiling the advice and recommendations and help from everyone, instead of thousands, the fix cost a couple of hundred dollars—and we learned more about hydrostatic transmissions than we ever cared to. But the important thing is the wheel line is back in business and there’s water on the field! C’mon second cutting!

Our resident ducks are trying to hatch a few ducklings. Pictured here, the momma-to-be chose just beneath the green onions to place her nest and hide from danger. 🦆🐥
