This week, we had the privilege of spending time with Gus! AKA Gusty, AKA Gus Gus… but his real name is Augusta 😂

Gus spent the week building recall, check-in skills, an emergency stop cue, and creating confidence around new people 🧍🧍‍♀️

This little fella is doing incredible, and we are so happy with his progress!

We think we found the cutest puppies 🤭🐶

Montana Tumbleweed Labradoodles invited us to perform temperament evaluations on this 7 week old litter, and they did not disappoint!

Temperament evaluations help provide breeders and future owners with more in-depth information into a puppy’s behavior and mannerisms. This allows for more educated placement.

July might *technically* be over, but we haven’t celebrated Bark 4 Joy Dog Training’s July Working Dog of the Month yet! 😱

Meet the adorable, Suzy. Known as the Salon 💇‍♀️ Greeter, this 17 week old pup has the wits of a 5 year old dog. 🐕 Her job is to greet customers, which just so happens to be her favorite part of the job. But don’t fret, if you aren’t a dog person, she’s able to sense that and will walk away!

When people enter Inner Beauty Salon, they are welcomed with smiles and a wagging tail! Better yet, she provides an additional service - Toe cleaning while you get your hair washed 😂🤣

This small pup has a dream of becoming a therapy dog one day, so stop in and help this pup achieve her goals 💪

Jordan, owner of Inner Beauty Salon, is a gem of a human, as are the rest of the staff! Some are accepting new clients, so if you’re looking for a new haircut, gel manicure, facial waxing, or eyelashes, this is your go to place! 🙌🏻

Walking is such a tough skill 😮‍💨

But, with the right guidance and mindset, it’s an activity that can bring you closer together 💪

Tater exhibits awesome loose leash walking in this video! (We also want to point out that he’s a young Doberman walking on a flat collar 😉 No gimmicks or special equipment needed!) With verbal feedback, food rewards, and environmental rewards, he stayed right next to his handler 👏🏻

We are excited to share yet more exciting news! 🤗🥳

After dozens of hours working on case studies and a rigorous exam, Madie has officially earned her CDBC! This is an extremely difficult certification to obtain, but Madie is now one of 3 in the state and only 50 in the country 😱

What does this mean? 🤔 This third-party assessment has proven Madie can effectively work with behavior cases including but not limited to fear, anxiety, resource guarding, reactivity, and aggression. Her work demonstrated a deep, scientific understanding of a dog’s psychological, mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being.

Why hire a behavior consultant instead of a trainer? A behavior consultant focuses on the emotions behind behaviors whereas trainers focus on skill training such as sit, down, etc.

For anyone seeking assistance for more difficult behaviors, please reach out! Madie is ready to help 💪

🐾 "But he knows it at home!"

Dogs don't generalize as well as people do. A dog who can sit perfectly in your living room may struggle to do the same thing at the park because the environment looks completely different to them 🤷

🚨This is why training in different locations matters! Your dog isn't being stubborn; they're learning that the cue applies everywhere, not just where it was first taught.

We take this into consideration when working with day school and board and train clients! If we don't ensure generalization happens, across locations and handlers, the dog is likely to struggle when they return home.
