Great company

This month's featured farmer is John King III, who operates King Farms alongside his father, John King Jr and nephew, Will Cashion. Located eight miles south of Helena on Highway 20, this family-run farm has deep roots in the community. John began his farming journey at the age of 14, initially overseeing rice fields during their first year of rice cultivation. Although he committed to farming full-time in 1988, his path was not always clear. After college, he ventured into the corporate world as a stockbroker for T.J. Raney and Sons in Little Rock. However, after experiencing the fallout from Black Monday (22% fall in Dow) in 1987, and working in windowless offices, he transitioned to managing video stores, only to face further setbacks when the blockbuster chain emerged. This series of experiences ultimately solidified his desire to return to farming. His time in Little Rock provided valuable insights into investing, financial markets, and small retail operations.

John particularly enjoys the harvest season. John says, “That’s when you reap the rewards of long hard work all year!” The farm primarily produces rice, soybeans, corn, and occasionally wheat, with rice being his favorite due to its distinctiveness.

John says he enjoys doing business with Poinsett Rice & Grain because they run their business well with great people, have a great and fast delivery point in Helena on the Mississippi river, and pay quickly electronically.

The King family is devoted to the farming tradition and maintaining their legacy. We are grateful for your continued business at Poinsett Rice & Grain!
