Clean Living Swap #6: Ditch the Seed‑Oil Coffee Creamers

One of the small but mighty swaps we made in our home was trading out seed‑oil based coffee creamers for real dairy — Natural Bliss real milk & cream or just plain heavy whipping cream.

I’m not a big coffee drinker, but my husband is, and this tiny change made his morning cup so much healthier.

Why we made the switch:
• Most flavored creamers are built on seed oils, gums, and fillers
• Real dairy gives you simple, whole ingredients
• Better fats, better flavor, better for your body
• It’s a swap you feel immediately — richer taste, no oily after‑feel

What we use now:
• Natural Bliss real milk & cream
• Or a splash of heavy whipping cream when we want it extra smooth

It’s not about perfection — just choosing ingredients that are closer to the way nature made them. And your morning coffee is an easy place to start.

If you’ve made the swap away from oil-based creamers, what do you add to your coffee now?

🌿 Clean Living Swap #5: Ditch the Dawn, Keep the Clean

This month’s swap is one of my favorites because it’s simple, effective, and cuts down on waste in a big way.

Swap your liquid dish soap for a solid tallow dish soap bar.

Most liquid dish soaps come in plastic bottles and rely on synthetic detergents that are tough on hands and not so great for the environment. A solid tallow dish soap bar gives you the same (or better) cleaning power with clean ingredients, zero plastic, and a longer‑lasting product.

Why our solid tallow dish soap works so well:

• Made with 100% pasture‑raised tallow for a naturally powerful clean
• Cuts grease without drying out your hands
• Lasts significantly longer than a bottle of liquid soap
• No dyes, no synthetic fragrances, no fillers — just simple, honest ingredients
• Pairs perfectly with a dish brush for a low‑waste kitchen routine

If you want to dig deeper into why tallow makes such an effective cleaner, I wrote a full blog post about it on the Barn 1912 website — including how it works, why it lasts, and why our grandparents used versions of this same soap for generations. See the comments for a direct link.

Small swaps add up. This one reduces plastic, simplifies your sink, and keeps your home aligned with the clean‑ingredient values we’re working toward this year.

Clean Living Swap #4: Upgrade Your Salt

This month’s swap is one that we believe will have lasting health benefits for the whole family.

Swap your regular table salt for mineral‑rich Celtic salt or another unrefined form of salt. Salt and the minerals that accompany it are essential to proper cellular function.

Most table salt is heavily processed, stripped of minerals, and often mixed with anti‑caking agents. Celtic salt, on the other hand, is naturally harvested, sun‑dried, and full of trace minerals your body actually uses and needs.

What we’ve noticed after switching:
• Food tastes fuller and more balanced
• We naturally use less because the flavor is stronger
• No additives — just real, unrefined salt
• The trace minerals (like magnesium, potassium, and calcium) support natural electrolyte balance
• It feels good choosing something closer to its natural form, especially for everyday cooking
• Mixing a small bit in our drinking water can help with dehydration on long days outside

If you’re working toward a cleaner home this year, start with the ingredients you reach for every single day. Salt is one of them.

Small swaps add up — one month, one change, one step toward a more intentional home.

Do you already use Celtic salt or another unrefined salt in your kitchen?
