SCG 5/7... Not all days go as planned. We did not secure any produce or plants today. I am a bit disappointed.
We have worked hard over the years to bring locally grown, produce. We have avoided any produce that is grown more than about 50 miles from our farm. Beyond that, we have always attempted to bring you quality merchandise that is a value and affordable.
I have expected to see some price raise this year. I also know its early in the growing season and that makes prices a bit higher. I was not prepared for prices that I simply don't believe would be acceptable to our customers.
We will try again later in the week.

This event is so much fun for us. We have been going to it for about 15 years. We stand in line for about an hour before it begins (We insist on being among the first 20 through the gate). By sale time over 300 people are in line. We wait in line longer than it takes us to shop. Next THURSDAY

SCG - 4/29 - We are welcoming May. The seasons are transitioning. We are planning to have a limited amount of Mother's Day and May flowers and plants. The picture is from last year, so there is no promises of the same variety. We shall see
The current plan is to go sourcing for deals THIS THURSDAY. We shall see. Details of our success will me almost immediate around the noon hour on THURSDAY.

SCG .. 4/10... Greetings to you all, this spring season. It is finally getting warmer. We have, for the past months, been asked about when we are opening. For the same time, we have been talking about when we are going to open.
Our plans for 2024 are a bit vague. I can tell you we are not going to be doing what we have done in the past few years. There comes a time when you know its time to pivot on plans. Our family responsibilities have continued to expand. We have had some personal loss, as well. Taking all that into account, you are going to see us cutting back a great deal
I do want to be clear, its not a sad thing. It is just knowing we have to make some changes. If I had to bet, you will likely see some offerings on some weekends with the products that we have counted on as our prime (two examples being corn and cantaloupes ).
I hope you all understand that we are taking some time to reflect on what is important and where that takes us.

SCG 3/24.... Spring is upon the world. We all hope you are having a great transition from Winter to Spring. Chuck and I want to take this time to update where we are. Easter is early this year. It is in just 2 1/2 weeks. We are not going to be selling Easter flowers this year. The weather is still far too uncertain, as we are a 100% outdoor venue and our flower sources aren't open for the season yet. There are plenty of local, high quality places for flowers that are grown and sold locally. That is always our suggestion when buying. Thanks.

SCG - 11/29 ONLY at our farm and farmstand do such weird things happen. I commented back in August, I believe, that someone had stolen our beat up old wheelbarrow. I guess the weather is colder and no one wants to winter store a wheelbarrow no longer needed. When I got to the farm this morning I found the wheelbarrow has been returned. I guess a Thank You is in order ? LOL

SCG - 12/22 - We want to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. We are going to be open Wednesday until about 4:00. That is our final day for the season. Happy Holidays to all and to all a good night. We will check in February if we see our shadow. That will help us plan 2024.

Apples and Sweet Potatoes are available for whatever you wish to pay for them. It is the remaining stock.

SCG - 11/19 Thanksgiving Week - We are offering out some amazing Yellow and Red Delicious Apples which are great for making pies, if you make your own. Add to that my personal favorite, Granny Smith Apples which are great for apple dumplings. Last, but not least, we have Sweet Potatoes for your Holiday needs.

We do not have strawberries.

We are offering them at the honor system of "Take What You Need, Pay What You Wish, Pay What You Can" on ALL the remaining local produce.

SCG - 11/17 In the ordinary contacts while stocking I do run across a wide variety of merchandise that I pass. In the regular season, we limit our stock to locally-grown produce. In the short off-season, I have been a bit more flexible with the strawberries and pickles last week.
Chuck and I have been enjoying cheeses. The source is the well-known DiBruno Brothers of Philadelphia. We have shopped at their two stores on South 9th St. often. I have no idea if we offer it, if anyone is interested. I am still thinking about it. We have enjoyed Smoked Gouda and Brie, among others. It is all fresh, in date and first quality. Just givig you a heads up we may offer some.

We are less than a week from Thanksgiving. The weather feels like a week before Easter, but I am told that will change.

Apples are the name of the game this weekend. We have fantastic fresh Granny Smith Apples. I admit, they are my favorite. They are tart and make great Apple Dumplings (Chuck will be quick to let you know that I have NEVER made an Apple Dumpling myself) We have them 2/$1.00 (They were picked 11/16 (as were all the apples))

Add to that Yellow Delicious at 6/$1.00 and Red Delicious $3.00/bag (the farmer had already bagged them, I left them that way).

We have fresh unsized unwashed Sweet Potatoes at 6/$1.00. I add the description to let you know they are unwashed, right from the ground.

We are SOLD OUT of Eggs already.

We will be open Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Note: We will not be open the weekend after Thanksgiving

SCG.. 11/12... We have some set rules we abide by during the majority of our season. We sell local plants, local produce etc. During, what is now, off season we are a bit more flexible.

We offered 5 gallon buckets of Kosher Pickles this weekend. Adding to that, ONE DAY, SUNDAY ONLY. (9-4 Sunday) We have Driscoll strawberries. Again, I do know the retail price of strawberries. We got a good deal. We actually can get strawberries like this along with citrus and shipped produce all the time; we choose not to do it during the main season.

So, for ONE DAY ONLY we have these strawberries at 2 packs for $5.00. I never price anything off 'the dollar point'. That being said, if you have the exact change I have no problem with buying them at $2.50 each.

We will be open Sunday from 9-4 and will be closed Monday-Thursday.

Just prior to Halloween we were privileged to play a small part in the Wilson Borough Fall Fest. We were generously gifted with two T-shirts today. Thank you Sandy Berkane and Team. It was our pleasure. Just one more reason to support small local businesses (not just ours, but all of them). Most sponsors of this event are local small businesses.

As we can, we will open on some weekends. We will open Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 9:00 - 4:00 on some weekends as weather and produce permits.

If you are thinking Thanksgiving (less than 2 weeks away) we have some items to help. We have great Cabbage at $3.00 a head or 2 heads for $5.00. We have a limited number of Eggs for $3.00/dozen.

Carrots come in all colors. We have a great spectrum of Rainbow Carrots, grown locally for 2/$1.00. Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes are 6/$1.00 and Butternut Squash are 2/$1.00

We are in the off season, so I did have an opportunity to offer an item I would not do during the main season. There are two 5 gallon buckets of Kosher Pickles. I know this is not for everyone, but if you have a store, deli, restaurant (or just LOVE pickles) this is a bargain. Having worked a lot of years in food service, I know they run $65-90. I double checked, so I know I'm right. The buckets are IN DATE, sealed and 100% safe and fresh. We have them less than half price at $30.00 each. I only have two available. Again, I know this is not for everyone.

SCG 11/5 (Wrapping Up) What a glorious Fall Weekend. Cool mornings, but amazing afternoons in the sun. The time change means we are on the way to colder weather.

I am not going to sugar coat that this produce selling season has not been quite a challenge. Not looking for excuses or reasons, but just putting it out there. 2023 has certainly not been 2021 or 2022 in any way, shape, or form. Heads get scratched when you see the changes, but they are what they are and they were what they were.

The remainder of the produce is for the "Take What You Need, Pay What You Wish, Pay What You Can" basis. I am getting ready to take it down and close up entirely. I know it wont happen Sunday and likely not all of it Monday. So there is a small window of opportunity if anyone is looking for Potatoes, Apples or Sweet Potatoes.

We always and always want to THANK everyone one of you that took your time and resources to make your way to us this year (and past years) for locally grown, fresh produce at a good price. It all helps to alleviate food insecurity, if even in a small way. THANK YOU.

We will be open until dusk, which is now about 5:30 or so.

SCG. 11/2. Some businesses have 'soft openings'. I guess or suppose this is a 'soft closing'. We still have some great seasonal, local produce available even though we are officially closed for the season.

We have Red Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Apples and Organic Butternut Squash. All of them will last for some time if stored correctly. We are offering the remainder of what we have at "Take What You Need, Pay What You Wish, Pay What You Can" We just ask that you be fair, as you always have been.

For the Holiday Season we may, from time to time, have some weekend boxes, wreathes or greens. That is not guaranteed, but we will be look for good deals. If that happens it will only be weekends and we will post them.

It has been one rollercoaster of a year. Sustainable Country Gentlemen will be closing for the season after October 31st. With a 70% decrease in sales this year we can't justify staying open longer. With that said we have no current plans to be open for the Christmas season. That may change if we can acquire some cemetery boxes which we will offer them one weekend only. There will be postings on Facebook if we decide to do this.

Next year is going to look much different Ed and I have been talking about how we are going to approach the new season. What we have come up with is a smaller quantity of items which will give us the opportunity for a larger variety of products. This does not mean we won't be taking special orders for large quantities. On the contrary, we are happy to do this you will need to let us know in advance what you would like and how much not unlike this year or past years.

Opening in the new season we aren't completely sure when that will be. This year we did open early before Easter I can tell you that will not be happening next year. Our normal start date is Mother's Day weekend with the herbs from the herb society. We may open that weekend just not with the herbs we haven't decided if we want to start that early or wait until closer to Memorial Day.

Ed and I both want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years. We also want to thank you for your patience as we see how we will be entering the next season.
