Our surprises get better every time! (Long post warning!)
We have a cow we’ve been watching closely because we think she could calve soon—and she’ll be a first-time mama.
When I got home from work today, I noticed vultures circling over the horse pasture that backs up to the cow paddock. Of course, that immediately got our attention. We hopped on the 4-wheeler and headed out to check on everyone.
The cows were standing in the pond, happy as could be on this hot day. Everything looked perfectly normal.
After we came back up to water all the animals, I glanced over at Pollyanna’s stall and saw something white lying inside. At first, I honestly thought it was a stray dog or some other animal.
I walked over to investigate and nearly fell over when I realized what I was looking at…
A MINIATURE MULE!!!
Pollyanna had given birth sometime today!
The crazy part? She showed absolutely no signs when we checked on her last night.
We quickly moved Tink out to the little cow’s pasture for the baby’s safety. Unfortunately, he immediately started chasing sweet Pippy. In true Pippy fashion, she launched herself over a four-foot fence and straight into the chicken coop. Needless to say, Tink is now back in a corral by himself!
Several hours, lots of excitement, and a little chaos later, everyone is finally where they’re supposed to be, and both mama and baby are doing wonderfully.
Meet Sonny! ☀️
The very first miniature mule born at Reynolds Ranch—and he looks exactly like his daddy!
Welcome to the ranch, little guy. ❤️
