🍏 We have made it to the "fruit set" stage!

👀 Look at these guys growing! From this point on, the apples will continue to get larger.

👨‍🔬 Right now, we are focusing on chemical thinning. This process lessens the clusters of fruit down to 1 or 2 apples to promote better sun exposure & to increase individual apple size.

🌿 Thinning also helps decrease breakage due to excess weight on the branches.

🖐 Thinning can be done by hand or chemically. Chemical thinning is trickier, but much more efficient & less labor intensive.

🌧 In our area & surrounding counties, farmers desperately need rain. Help us pray we will get some soon!

🍃 Most of our trees are now to the "petal fall" stage!

🌳 The apple trees are rich with green foliage & the "bloom" stage is now behind us.

🚜 At this point, it's all about routine spraying & orchard maintenance such as w**d spraying, mowing, & chopping brush among many other jobs.

🍎 The next stage is "fruit set" where you will be able to see very small apples beginning to develop!

🍿 We've always said when the apple trees bloom, it looks like they have popcorn hanging all over them! Such a gorgeous time in apple country.

☀️ Due to unusally warm temperatures in March, much like today, in just a week's time, many of the apples have gone from "tight cluster" stage to "pink" stage.

🌸 The next stage will be "bloom".

🥶 It's still too early to know the extent of the damage the hard freeze brought nearly a week ago.

🙏 As always, we just keep working & trusting the Lord for the best possible outcome!

🍎 Right now, a lot of our apples around the farm look like this:

🍏 This phase of growth is called "tight cluster".

🤔 At this stage, it is hard to tell the extent of damage that a hard freeze will bring.

🌡 Typically, at this phase, apples are fairly hardy, unless temps dip below 25°.

❤️ As always, farming brings it's challenges; but our faith is always in the Lord, who sees us through each & every obstacle, season after season! We remain trusting & grateful.
