Before..... and after. Busy weekend - this was only one of the projects I have been neglecting around the house. I spent all weekend in between lightning strikes and showers that washed the road out again cleaning and planding veggies.
Now our mail folks wont get poison ivy!!
And, I escaped unscathed!! Wheew!

THIS is why there is a top on the water trough. Silly Miss Piggy just cant keep her dirty butt out of everyone's drinking water! She likes (liked) to hop on in and soak. Nobody likes pig-flavored water!!

Red thinks she is a chicken. She is, in fact, a turkey. A VERY broody turkey. She had her own turkey-sized nesting tub, but decided she liked the girls' boxes better. They were intended to be temporary since we locked the bitties in the outside coop area to acclimate from the brooder.... but the ladies have had access to their "old" nesting boxes for a week now, and they've not laid one egg there again. So we will have to find a good spot to put this box back permanently in the inside roosting area. *sigh* chickens and turkeys are entertaining for sure.

The hatchlings went in with the meat birds because they're feathered out and it's time for roosting with the big birds ♡

We had to put a top on the water trough to keep the pig from getting into the water. And NOW the baby goats climb on top and tap dance on it. Silly goats! This is Prince William (Willamena's son)

Poor Ginger suffered a miscarriage last week. We didnt discover it immediately and this mama heart cried for her. Poor sweet thing ❤️ she seems to be doing better now. Hopefully she will be able to have another little Ruby red Dexter running around the pasture soon.

SPRING!!

Hurricane Helene devastated our CSRA area. You may not have seen us on the news if you dont live nearby. Not as much was lost as western NC with people's homes and lives washed away. But, we quietly cleaned up our houses (and lives) crushed by trees.

Here at Dogwood Ridge, we will probably never be able to clean up all the trees that fell (and continue to fall). We also assumed that most of the dogwoods did not survive from being blown over, broken, or crushed by other trees. Last year's spring did not bode well for the fragile dogwoods as we had so few trees announcing themselves in spring as they usually do.

THIS year, however, the dogwoods are back and more beautiful than ever! Even some trees that were broken, bent, or pulled down with other trees are showing their blooms proudly!

The Dogwoods prove how tough they can be, and show us that sometimes they just need some downtime to heal to bloom again!

Lovely Lea 🧡

We have 5 cats - Lea was found barely alive with her dead siblings. We previously lived in an area with a feral cat colony, it was a heavy weight around our necks. We did our best with finding homes, bringing trapped cats and kittens to be fixed and then released if they were not rehomed. Many were rehomed, many were not ... but we kept a few of them (for different reasons), but all 5 were feral at one time, and are now a part of our family.

Lea was bottle-fed and survived the odds ♡

I can't put my heart through the pain of living with a cat colony like we did before. I spent so much money on food and gas to get to the Snip Clinic over an hour away. We buried so many that did not survive; attacked by dogs, foxes, coyotes and more, we cried for them every time.

So many little lives lost.

Please fix your animals! Save lives with adoption, and spoil them when you choose to give them a home.
