KNOW YOUR GRAPE: CHAMBOURCIN 🍇
“What grape is in your Chambourcin?”
We hear that question more often than you might think. The answer is simple: Chambourcin is the grape. But the story behind it is a little more interesting.
Chambourcin is a French-American hybrid red grape known for its deep color. Unlike most red w**e grapes, which have clear juice beneath their skins, Chambourcin is a teinturier grape — from the French word for “dye” — meaning its juice itself is darkly pigmented.
A little Chambourcin 101:
• Pronounced sham-bor-san
• Smooth and medium-bodied with soft tannins
• Often shows dark cherry and earthy characteristics
• Chambourcin represents about 11.5% of Missouri's w**e-grape acreage — roughly 195.5 acres
And then there’s our 2024 Chambourcin.
At 13.6% ABV, it opens with a jammy nose of ripe cherry, sweet to***co and vanilla, followed by tart cherry, black currant and sweet to***co on the palate. Smooth, balanced and silky through the finish.
Pair it with pork schnitzel, burgers, steak, wild game, lamb, tomato-based pasta — or save a little for the dark chocolate.
And apparently, we aren't the only ones who like this one: our 2024 Chambourcin earned Gold and Best of Class at the 2025 Missouri W**e Competition.
