Congratulations to our employees in residence - Lyle and Daisy the barn cats! They have been nominated as employees of the year for their dedicated work, keeping the mice under control.
Since the day they were adopted by the farm, Lyle and Daisy have enjoyed a lifestyle suited to their personalities. They have freedom to roam, and lots of fans who adore them. The farmers care for the cats, just as they do for the other farm animals – with a careful diet, four season shelter, vet visits, and vaccines. We love you, Lyle and Daisy!!

Question: have you ever been around a bunch of hungry teenagers? Well, Frying Pan Farm Park currently has a horde of teen pigs, and they demand to be fed every day! 😳 The pigs, just like the other farm animals, are owned by a nonprofit group called the Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park. It costs the friends a lot to keep 100 farm animals well-fed, safe and healthy all year long. As you think about who you'd like to donate to at the end of the year, please put Frying Pan's friends on your list. Any amount you give will help care for the animals and support the park: https://friendsoffryingpanfarmpark.salsalabs.org/friendsoffryingpanfarmdec2021. Thanks!

TONIGHT! Come see us at the Holiday Lights event at Frying Pan Farm Park! Stay warm in your car as you drive around the park and look at thousands of holiday lights, plus inflatable characters and live farm animals! Tickets are $25 at the gate or $20 if you buy your tickets online in advance: Bit.ly/3dbpjLq. For everyone's safety, no pedestrians are allowed at this event. If you're not in a car, you have to have four feet -- or hooves, like us! 😄 If you have questions, call 703-437-9101 between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

If you've walked your dog or jogged on the nature trails around Frying Pan Farm Park recently, you've probably seen rows of green tubes in the woods. If you've wondered what they are, here's the scoop. They're part of a county-wide program called Helping Our Land Heal. The goal is making park forests healthier. Non-native invasive plants are one of the biggest threats to park forests. Wild animals don’t like the taste of non-native plants, and the plants don’t give the animals the nutrients they need. Over time, there are fewer and fewer native plants, and the ones that survive are overeaten by the animals. That makes it even easier for the invasive plants to take over, and it’s a downward spiral. The invasive plants are being replaced by healthy plants. The tubes help protect the new plants. This is a multi-year project that kicked off in 2020. NASCOW IS BACK! NASCOW started in 2020 during the pandemic but was so popular folks asked to make it an annual event. Please help Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park again this year to raise essential funds by sponsoring a cow in their third annual, NASCOW Fundrace.
NASCOW is a real race with actual COWS! It takes place Friday November 4, 9 am at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon VA. While spaces last, donors at the $50 and up levels can choose to come see the race live. One lucky $500 and up donor will serve as the official race starter. The race will be video taped for all who can't see it live.
