The farm is family owned and originally purchase by Williams father in 1962. The owners, William and Connie Straathof have been married for 33 years and have always had dreams of processing and bottling their farms milk. Hilhof Farm started bottling certified organic milk in glass bottles in 2008. Our philosophy is that healthy soil produces healthy food, which produces healthy animals and people.
Since 1996 we have not used any man made chemicals or herbicides on our soil. In 2004 we certified all our crops and cattle organic and we remain certified organic today. We use alternative treatments, such as homeopathic remedies on our cattle. No antibiotics or hormones are used. Our cows are 100% grass fed, no grains are used in their diet. Studies have proven that organic grass-fed milk is significantly higher in CLA's, omega 3's, Vitamin E, and also has the ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids. The cows pasture eight months out of the year and weather permitting the cows are let outside of the stall barn for exercise and fresh air in the winter. Our milk is pasteurized but not homogenize and comes with a cream line (you can see it at the top of the milk, make sure you shake it). The milk is bottled in returnable glass bottles for several reasons, not only does it taste better but they are returnable and reusable and our hope is to keep less waste out of landfills.
