I typically dig and ship the same day. Plants are tagged with a lazer printed label and put in a wagon with water to keep them hydrated. After washing & trimming, I dip plants in a fertilizer/fungicide solution, air dry them, pack with ice bricks to keep them cool longer & then I personally take them to the UPS hub at 6:00pm so they don't have to sit in a hot truck all day.

I guarantee our plants to be true to name. I put a tag on them the minute they come out of the ground, but mistakes can happen. So, when they bloom, if it doesn't look right, contact me and I'll make it right! Even if it's 2 years later. I recommend you bury the tag with the plant for identification later.

I do my very best to send you plants as quickly as possible, that are ready to take off and grow! However, when you open your box, if there is anything that does not meet your expectations, (a small amount of drying and yellowing during shipping happens and unless it is severe, that is not a reason for being unhappy with an order) contact me within 48 hours of the UPS delivery date/time of your package, provide your email, and I will send you a mailing label. Mail it back to me within 48 hours of reciept of the label and when I recieve the package, I will refund you for any plants (not postage) you have sent back. I do not warranty plants beyond this point as I do not control when or how you plant or care for the daylilies I send you.

So, Facebook asks, "What's on your mind?" APHIDS!!!!! That's what is on my mind AND ON MY DAYLILIES!

I bet if you go out and look down inside your daylily plants you're gonna find them too. And did you know that there is an aphid that is actually called the daylily aphid? Yep! Aren't we special to have a aphid named just for us?

So what do you do? If your aphid, population is not actually doing any damage to your plants, then, you may not need to do anything at all!

And if you have an abundance of lady beatles and lace wings and lady beetle larva that are crawling on your plants and eating the aphids - oh yes, they love em - then, you might wanna just let them eat and do their thing.

But what can you do if the population is more than what the lady beatles and the lace wings can handle?

Here's a few remedies. You do you and pick what works best for you!

Interplant your daylilies with alliums, mint, rosemary, marigolds, lavender - just about any strongly scented plants may help.

Water:

A hard blast from your water hose will knock the aphids off.

Contact insecticides:

Soap. Dawn dishwashing soap 1 Tbsp./gal. of water sprayed on the aphids will work.

Insecticidal Soap sprayed on the aphids, will work.

Commercial insecticides like malathion or bifinthrin sprayed on the aphids will work.

These are all contact insecticides, and must be sprayed directly onto the aphid to kill them.

Whichever you choose, you must be dedicated and spray at least once per week for 3-4 weeks, until your aphid population is tolerable.

Systemic Insecticides: Imidacloprid or acetaphate.

Apply as a granual or spray. The plants will absorb the insecticide and the next time the aphid pokes his strawlike mouthparts into the daylilies, they'll get a belly full of insecticide and will die.

These will also control leafminers and thrips.

Imidacloprid lasts a long time in the soil and in the plant. Which may be a concern for later in the season for your pollinators.

Acetaphate will remain in your plant for 10-30 days and with the right timing of application may not be a problem for the pollinators.

Whatever method you choose, just do it. Left alone, without sufficient natural preditors, aphids can actually hurt your plants.

Also, ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW the recommended rate of product. Even Dawn Dish soap can harm your foliage if mixed too strong.
