This never, ever gets old, even after raising sheep for nearly 35 years. The little chuckles from the ewe as she talks to her babies and the tiny maaaa's as the babies talk back. This good momma had cleaned off the brown lamb and got it to it's feet. He's now checking out where the milk spigot is. The little white one just hit the ground a few seconds before I got there, momma is busy washing it's face and getting it a good start. Within minutes the lambs are on their feet, and observing this new world they've dropped into. Once the lambs are dry and clean and have a full belly, the ewe will gather them up underneath her chin and lay down with them so she can have a rest and the lambs are curled up tight with her for safety and warmth. If after a while, she feels they have had a long enough nap, she will gently paw at them to get them to their feet and push them to her udder for another meal. The ewes go through a frantic stage where they don't want the lambs more than a couple of feet away from them, and like children everywhere, they want to test their indenpendence as they get older. The ewes scold and the lambs flip their tails and it is a source of endless entertainment for us.

First day out on grass. Momma's are keeping babies really close and Bess is under the tree right behind them.

40 pounds of prime Colorado Rambouillet Wool packed and ready to go to the mill tomorrow to be combed into top. More to get ready, not to mention Navajo Churro fleeces for roving. That time of year, shop vacs are humming as we compress as much as we can in boxes. And a few cuss words flying as well. Hope this box doesn't explode.

Our big boy Juan Carlos, we've used him for several years and he is a stunner and gentle and easy to handle. We will probably be looking to sell or trade him this year to a good Churro home as we need to bring some new blood lines in. More details as we make decisions.
