One of our CSA options this year is the Farmer’s Choice Share.

This option functions just like our CSAs of years past. For 14 weeks from late June to late September, members pick up a selection of produce carefully curated by their farmer (moi!). This selection reflects what’s in season and available in the field for that week.

In addition, members receive a weekly newsletter that includes recipes for that week’s contents. In short, the Farmer’s Choice Share is a fun and exciting way to support our farm!

Today I came to terms with what I’ve been telling everyone since the beginning of June. Once again, this year I will have September tomatoes. I’ve been feeling so disappointed in myself. Why couldn’t I have gotten them in earlier!? Why didn’t I plan better! Why can’t the weather make up its mind(without ever blaming the rain)!

May, June, July swallowed me right up and spit me back out. I’ve been looking at a field on the verge of abundance, calculating dollar signs or the lack there of in my little head.

Farming is humbling. It has you question everything about yourself and your abilities, only to have you start planning for the next year.

So in the spirit of almost every other farm post I’ve seen this month, bye July!! Hello, August! Grow baby grow!

This weekend I had the privilege of attending one of my best and oldest friend’s wedding. It was a short, sweet, whirlwind of a trip, but it was oh so worth it.

I feel so consumed by farming, especially right now, that sometimes it’s hard to see the things that are important. No matter how much planning I put in, my anxious thoughts and fears often feel all consuming. Can this business be profitable? Can I make enough money to pay my staff every week? Can I keep my CSA filled and diverse enough to retain my membership year to year? Etc, etc, blah, blah, blah. You get the picture. I’m fried. I’m stressed. I’m tired.

But moments like this weekend remind me that none of that really matters if I can’t spend time with the people I love. I’m sure I’ll figure it out, but for now, I’ll just laugh at my ridiculous tan lines that no amount of scrubbing will ever get rid of.

Feeling grateful for this tiny slice of dirt. Despite the trials and tribulations of farming, there is nothing I’d rather be doing… some rain would be nice though 🤞.

ALERT: Our CSA is filling up! Sign up while you still can!

Even though it’s snowing outside, we’re dreaming of spring salads. The butter lettuce may be babies right now, but before you know it they’ll be in your CSA boxes and at the market!

This winter has been relaxing and rejuvenating, spent with family and friends in some of my favorite places. That said, I’m itching to get my hands back in the dirt.

Scenes from the prop house and adventures around the San Juans, the Netherlands, San Francisco, and NYC. Peep the cover crop in the high tunnel at the end.
