I want to highlight the "runt" of Ermintrude's litter. We always root for the underdog and this little girl has earned a special place in my heart for her tenacity! These little guys are 4 weeks old, but she's just now the size of a week old piglet. Although petite, she is a chunker and I couldn't be happier that she is thriving!

Olivia's and Fat Matilda's babies are never out when I feed in the mornings, so hopefully soon I can share pictures of them.

Spring brings new life on the farm! Now that the days are longer we had a busy weekend. One of our sweet church families bought a dozen hatching eggs to let their little ones incubate. Six of the twelve hatched and came back to us a week later. Our seriously broody mama Little Red has hatched a couple and is still actively sitting on a nest. Our sow Ermintrude had six piglets (not pictured) two weeks ago and Olivia, who's been on baby watch for a month just farrowed last night and had ten wee babes!
Two barrows (castrated males) 8 weeks old went to their new home as well. It's always hard to say goodbye and I hate that part, but such is farm life.

My heart was so happy yesterday morning when this girl showed her face. Her name is Coconut and she is the first offspring of Little Red. Three mornings in a row she wasn't there for feeding time. She kind of hangs back because she's lower in hierarchy, but she always shows up. After the 3rd morning, I was getting concerned, but hoped that she was maybe laying eggs those mornings or building a nest.

Praise the Lord, yesterday, there she was! My heart was so relieved and happy to see her.

Here are some updated pictures of our wee bairns! They are so fast that it is hard to get good pictures of them sometimes. Our newest piglet is a boy and he is precious! He has made friends and is learning all things pig from the older two.

Monday, February 2
We had one more day off work due to the amount of snow/ice on the roads. We ended up getting a third snowfall on the following Wednesday which brought another half inch.

It was fun to see the different animal tracks in the snow. They were mostly deer and rabbit tracks.

I busted the ice up in the sled waterer that our chickens and ducks love. A bunch of Robins discovered the water source and took advantage.

This little one needs an introduction because, well just look at it! From Day 1 we have raised Mulefoots which are a heritage breed of pig that are only ever solid black.

Imagine the shock and awe when I went to feed yesterday morning and see this little precious! What in the recessive gene is going on here? 😆
On top of it being so strikingly different, it is a big baby! It is bigger than our two piglets born two weeks ago!
