What would summer even be without cold brew? 🤔 The benefits of cold brew include🧊☕️:
- Significantly Lower Acidity: Because the grounds are never exposed to high heat, cold brew extracts fewer acidic compounds (often up to 60% less than hot brewed coffee). This makes it much gentler on the stomach and tooth enamel.
- Smoother, Sweeter Flavor: Hot water rapidly extracts chlorogenic acids and tannins, which cause bitterness. The slow, cold-steeping process leaves most of these harsh compounds behind, resulting in a naturally sweeter, smoother profile that rarely requires added sugar.
-Extended Shelf Life: Hot coffee begins to oxidize and turn stale or bitter within hours. A batch of cold brew concentrate, however, remains stable and fresh-tasting in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Higher Caffeine Concentration: Cold brewing requires a much higher coffee-to-water ratio (typically 1:4 or 1:5) and steeps for 12 to 24 hours. Even when diluted with milk or water, the resulting cup often packs a stronger caffeine punch than standard drip coffee.
- Better Versatility: Because it is brewed as a dense concentrate, it stands up exceptionally well to ice without immediately watering down. It also serves as a robust base for cocktails, baking, or infused beverages.
