MDARD has confirmed three additional cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in horses from Barry, Clare, and Oakland counties, which brings the total number of cases for the year to 13: Barry (1), Clare (4), Kent (1), Montcalm (4), Newaygo (2), and Oakland (1).

All of these cases have been discovered in horses, and these are the first reported cases for Barry and Oakland counties. Also, all of these affected horses were either unvaccinated or under-vaccinated and have died due to the severity of the disease or were euthanized.

It is crucial for owners to contact a veterinarian about vaccinating their horses against this disease and to contact a veterinarian if their horses are showing neurological signs—such as staggering, walking in circles, leaning against objects, and being down with an inability to get up.

For more information, please visit www.equinediseasecc.org or www.Michigan.gov/emergingdiseases.

MDARD has confirmed three more cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in horses from Newaygo, Montcalm, and Clare counties.

While Newaygo County has now experienced its first case of EEE for 2020, the other new cases in Montcalm and Clare counties are the second known findings in these areas.

When comparing this year’s numbers to those from last year at this time, there have been fewer cases experienced overall. Last year, the first case of EEE occurred on July 22, 2019; and a total of seven cases were discovered by late August. This year, the first case of EEE was reported on August 11, 2020; and these latest findings bring the total number of cases in the state to five.

Horse owners are strongly advised to vaccinate their animals against the disease. Please contact your veterinarian about this option as well as take other precautions to safeguard your animals. Also, if an animal has difficulty standing or walking and develops a fever, please seek veterinary care as soon as possible.

For more information, visit:
www.equinediseasecc.org or www.Michigan.gov/emergingdiseases.

Hello friends,

This has been a weird year. We have all given up many freedoms in order to protect our fellow man. Sacrifice is hard and horses have made it tolerable. Looking forward to the 2020 Western Dressage World Show has been like a piece of sunshine. Maybe, that’s why this is the hardest announcement I have ever had to send to you. Please keep reading after the next sentence.

Due to the ongoing threat to your health and considering the feasibility of hosting a spectacular event in a safe way, the WDAA Board of Directors voted to cancel the 2020 WDAA Western Dressage World Championship Horse Show. This is a decision that devastated the Board to make. We are heart-broken that we will not get to experience the show with you at the Lazy E in October. However, it would hurt us more if one of you were to perish from a virus contracted at our show. Please, keep reading…

WDAA has extended its contract with the Lazy E for an additional year. We are committed to making the live 2021 WDAA World Show so amazing that it will be worth the wait. Please read at least one more paragraph.

As a consolation and definitely not as a replacement for World Shows after this year, the Board voted for WDAA to host an online 2020 World Championship Show in October. Board members have had time to consider and digest this idea. It definitely takes some getting used to. However, we know in our hearts we are best serving you by offering a little sunshine as opposed to total darkness. All the amazing prizes you have become accustomed to winning at the World Show will be awarded for the online show. We hope you will consider the many positive opportunities the online show will offer this year. We know it’s not as good as a live show, but this year is not like other years.

Tough times call for tough decisions and I am grateful to all the WDAA Board Members who have considered many options and come up with a workable solution for our organization, for now. Thank you all for understanding. WDAA will be releasing information regarding the 2020 WDAA Western Dressage Online World Championship Show soon. Please continue to follow our social media and our World Show Website for more information in the future.

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association regretfully announces the cancellation of the 2020 All American Quarter Horse Congress, scheduled for September 29 - October 25. The uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic simply prevents safely moving forward in Columbus Ohio. The well-being of our workers, exhibitors and attendees is our highest priority and based on the information we have today, the risk is simply too great. Thank you for understanding this difficult decision.

“It is a sad day with the cancellation of the 2020 All American Quarter Horse Congress. Hearing all the concerns from the local and state health departments, and the CDC, it was the right decision to make to keep people safe and healthy,” said Dr. Scott Myers, CEO of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association. “It is disappointing to all who worked tirelessly in preparation for this year's Congress, and I want to personally thank you for your continued support. I look forward to the biggest and best Congress ever in 2021.”

Sincere thanks to the many loyal Congress sponsors, exhibitors and supporters. We are in this together, our industry is strong and rest assured, the Congress will be here in 2021. Details on moving forward and further updates will be available on quarterhorsecongress.com.

The Oakland County Fair Board voted to cancel the traditional 2020 Oakland County Fair, July 10-19, 2020. The 2021 Fair dates will be July 9-18, 2021.
“We are greatly disappointed that we won’t be able to provide the full fair experience for the thousands of guests we have each year due to the COVID19 pandemic. The safety and health of the entire community, volunteers, guests, exhibitors, vendors, employees and board members is our top priority. With this priority in mind and the recent announcement from Governor Whitmer that our State may only be in phase 5 of the MI Safe Restart plan at the starting date of our fair the decision to cancel the event was made,” said LC Scramlin, General Manager.
Our Fair Board will be continuing to support our exhibitors with an exhibitor only competition, no general public or carnival, which will meet the State of Michigan’s phased reopening plan pending health department approval or a virtual competition if group sizes are too large for in person competition. Details will be sent directly to our registered exhibitors.
We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back in 2021 to celebrate the return of the Oakland County Fair, July 9-18, 2021.

After a long winter and what seems like a never ending spring, we are ready to welcome you back to Wyn Farm for our summer show series!

While we are excited to see all of our showing friends again, we will be making some changes to the 2020 series to accommodate for the current health conditions. We believe we can run a safe yet fun show series where we can all enjoy our horses if we can all work together for the greater good and health of our fellow riders.

-Our June 13-14th Show will open May 30th and Close June 7th, or until we reach the first 60 riders, so be sure to get your entries in early! We will keep a wait list of riders if need be. Preference given to riders showing both Saturday and Sunday.
-Stalls are first come first serve, and we will be grouping barns together. Tack stalls may be limited. All other entries will be showing from their trailers by day.
-Riders will be limited to 2 tests per day per horse to help with scheduling.
-In an effort to protect those at risk, all staff will be temperature monitored and screened with current protocol questions, and will be masked or have face shields.
-All attendees will be required to have a mask or face shield if medically unable to/ uncomfortable wearing a mask, and must wear their masks when within 6ft of others or any show building. No masks required when mounted. If you are in an area where you are socially distant the mask can come off, but please keep it handy. All of this is in an effort to protect those around you, and we are asking that you be empathetic and conscious of others.
-We will have sanitizing stations set up and available near high touch areas for general use.
-We will still allow spectators, but we are requesting to please keep your guests to as few as possible for the safety of all. Videoing your rides is always welcome so you can share it with those who could not attend, as well as an excellent training tool!
-Please bring your own seating and space yourselves from others, no seating will be provided.
-No food booth will be provided.
-When you are with your barn, please do not group in more than 10 people, or current Michigan recommendations at the time.

While we hope the show can run, there may be a chance that government restrictions prevent us from doing so. Because of this we are asking that NO ONLINE PAYMENTS ARE MADE, as we are not in control of those refunds and can't guarantee how timely they are. If you can please mail in your payment via check, we will hold checks and if the show doesn't run then they will be shredded for a full refund for all.

We have the best competitors around, so we know that your cooperation will more than exceed all expectations. We know you will be kind and compassionate and thoughtful of others, so that we can all do what we love to do in the safest manner possible. We thank you for being your amazing selves, and together We Are Wyn!

Please share this post to get the word out, see everyone soon 💚🐴
