Hey Facebook Friends, after several months of deliberation and passionate discussion, Anna and I have had to make the tough decision to take a break from the sustainable farming and local food scene.
Over the last 8 years our passion has turned from hobby to viable business, and we have met some of the most amazing people. Our customers are some of the finest people we've ever met. Many of you have become friends over the years, some of you have eaten at our table, we know your spouse and children's names, we've been with some of you for the ride during Chemo or other malady.
We've never had a bounced check, we've never had a soured business relationship, and other than the one time one of our customers stocked a freezer full of chicken before becoming a vegan a month later, we've never had a product return. Creating and cultivating these relationships are what we are going to miss as much as nurturing our feathered friends... but alas....
According to my google search, sustanable is defined as:
-Able to be used without being completely used up or destroyed
-involving methods that do not completely use up or destroy natural resources
-able to last or continue for a long time
With this decision in mind and our committment to sustainablility, both in agriculture and our personal lives, we have come to our decision. While we could continue raising our birds in a happy and humane way, Anna and I have both had to take on additional hours and responsibility in our full time jobs. As a result, we have to divide the little bit of time we have between our feathered friends and our daughter Polly, the true love of our lives. If we continued to divide our sparse time between Polly and raising poultry we would be failing our true mission of nurturing all life without burning ourselves out or allowing the things we love most to suffer or be shortchanged.
We still fully support the local food web, and our dedication to our mission of clean protein and food to table movements has not wavered. We still believe that knowing your farmer is important, knowing where your food comes from is critical, and sustainable production is going to be the key for society's future.
We will still continue to have eggs for a few weeks yet as we split up the flock and get our ladies to their new happy homes. If you or someone you know is searching for chickens or chicken equipment have them give us a shout.
Thank you all for the many years or smiles. If you've read this all the way to the end, I thank you, and Im sorry it took me so long to convey our most heartfelt thanks. Our hearts could not be any heavier, but we know its the right move.
All of our Bests,
Anna, Polly and Carl
