. It was difficult finding what I needed for my recipes, and when I did, I had to buy in bulk which was much more than I needed for my small flock. My fiance (now husband) suggested I try to sell it, and here I am, enjoying making it for others!! My chicken feeds are organic, non-GMO, and selected from quality sources that are both human and animal grade. They are heavily researched to include the nutrition chickens need not only to survive, but to flourish. I believe chickens are meant to eat whole grains and should get their nutrition from a variety of food sources. I also believe that pelleted feed in feed stores hides the quality of the ingredients. Also, the process of pelleting destroys the structure of the grain, which exposes the glutens and changes how nutrients are absorbed. Because my ingredients are whole and grown organically, you will see hulls, bits of plants, and an occasional “smut” grain. These are natural and fine for chickens. I buy grains and seeds with hulls intact, as this forage is a very important part of their diet. My friends tease me that I feed my chickens better than I feed my dogs. I reply “I don’t eat what comes out of my dogs!”
