NKJV
And God said, โ€œSee, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for foodโ€; and it was so.

๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ„๐ŸฎCrighton Family Farm took a trip to PolyFace farm in Swoope, Virginia last week. It was so awesome to be able to talk one on one to Joel Salatin, the king of regenerative farming! We have been following him for years, read many of his books and came home with lots of ideas to advance our farm. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿท

๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ“ Taking advantage of these gorgeous October days here at Crighton Family Farm to get the chicken coops ready for winter!
Thereโ€™s something so satisfying about getting everything cleaned up, repaired, and prepared before the cold weather arrives. Iโ€™m spending these beautiful fall days making sure the coops are secure and predator-proof, giving the chickens a safe, warm place to settle in when winter comes. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ
I also love using wood chips as a deep mulch layer in the chicken coops. The chickens scratch and turn them over as they go about their daily business, and over time the wood chips begin to break down and decompose. It not only helps keep the coop environment fresh, but eventually turns into wonderful, nutrient-rich compost for the garden! ๐ŸŒฑ
I love knowing that even the things that start as โ€œwasteโ€ around the farm can be put to good use. Itโ€™s just another little part of the cycle here on the homestead. โค๏ธ๐ŸŒพ

๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ Pool season is officially over at Crighton Family Farm! Weโ€™re closing up our pool for the year, but the ducks clearly didnโ€™t get the memo! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฆ†
While weโ€™re ready to put away the swimsuits and enjoy the cooler days of fall, the ducks are still happily enjoying their own pool! They donโ€™t seem to mind that the water is getting colder one bit. ๐Ÿฅถ๐Ÿ’ฆ
Ducks are amazing little creatures! Their feathers are naturally waterproof, and their bodies are well equipped to handle cold water and chilly weather. They can splash, swim, and carry on like itโ€™s summertime while the rest of us are reaching for a jacket! ๐Ÿ˜‚
I think the ducks might be the only ones around here who are NOT ready for summer to end! ๐Ÿฆ†โค๏ธ๐Ÿ
